I think they were labelled cilicicus, I doubt I'll get another species though. The reason they were just labelled spiny mouse is probably because that species isn't African!

Indeed - the Turkish spiny mouse...thanks! Curious as to why they haven’t tried for an African species of spiny mouse as there definitely are some out there in European zoos.

It’s always good to note which species anyway, as there are a lot of smaller zoos with Arabian spiny mice, not Turkish :)

Axe Valley Wildlife Park - 14/03/2020

43. Indian crested porcupine
44. Chacoan Mara

The single Jerboa and Filnayson's squirrel pair were no shows - they were the only other species that I needed for the challenge, so I'm a little disappointed that I didn't get to see them. Otherwise, this a very good zoo for the challenge with 14 different applicable species. Sadly, their North American Red Squirrel passed away over winter, so I was unable to add this species to my list.

Axe Valley Wildlife Park

45. Finlayson's Squirrel (Finally) - the zoo seem to hold a pair.

According to another Zoochatter (@FBBird ) Rock Hyrax have been added to the collection since my last visit.. subspecies is yet to be reported :)

Where did you see the flying fox? I was under the assumption that they were off show (due to covid) inside the tropical house? I was able too see the other 4 bat species held at the collection.
