The Texas Zoo (Victoria, TX) 2/13/16:
42. Collared peccary
Big update tomorrow :)

Oh, that is a very good point. Any clues, anybody? The zoo used to be AZA, so if there is a SSP then that'd be the species that it is.

Small world. I didn't see the Baird's Tapir or Baboon, perhaps they aren't there anymore?

Everyone take a big breath, because I went to the Gladys Porter Zoo today (2/14/16 for future reference)
Also, I am not going to count collared peccary until someone knows what kind it is.
42. West African Bushbuck
43. Bornean Bearded Pig
44. Bontebok
45. Nilgai
46. Mountain Bongo
47. Southern Great Kudu
48. Red Flanked Duiker
49. Gaur
50. Addax
51. Western Pygmy Hippopotamus
52. Southern Sable Antelope
I was sad because Beisa and brocket deer are no longer at the zoo. However, I saw the only bush bucks, potoroo, and mantled howler monkey on public display in North America (for the howlers, it's the world!)

All the Pygmy Hippos in captivity are the nominate and the Sable Antelope will either be nominate or non-ssp.

How numerous are the Bushbuck? Are they breeding?

PS- Due to going to the American Museum of Natural History today can I count all the ungulates for the challenge? They seemed life like enough today:p

1.3 in one habitat and 1.1 in the other. The GPZ is working with at least one private breeder to keep them around. There was I think one birth at the zoo, jbnbsn99 talked to the keeper a few times and there is info on some of their pictures in the gallery. I'll post mine, eventually (don't look for any from me any one soon. I'm still sorting through my eight facility trip in December.

Also, for anyone wondering, that Bornean Bearded Pig is the last one in an AZA Zoo. He looked pretty old, but at least some private zoos have younger (breeding) individuals.

I didn't talk to any keepers about the bushbuck, there weren't any around. I only talked to keepers about the brocket deer (replaced by red flanked duikers) and called the zoo to confirm Beisa was gone. I would guess that for the bushbuck to go to another zoo, said zoo would need an interest and the bushbuck would need to be bred (again, don't have info on that). We can only hope :)
