Back in second, I think, for probably the last time.

The long, slow grind of trying to catch Vision starts to gather pace, even as I briefly lose ground following their (his? Her?) visit to Walsrode.

Assuming I'm allowed to keep #50 I have finally brought up the half-century.

I'd like an adjudication on the last one. I wrote it down as 'white-faced bulbul' from the sign at the zoo, without taking the scientific name. On looking at Wikipedia I'm convinced I saw a white-headed bulbul but ZTL says there are none in Europe, let alone Beauval. I am 99% sure it was a white-headed bulbul, and my doubt comes only from the slightly different name and the indication that ZTL might be out of date.

@CGSwans are you sure it wasn't the white-headed morph of Black bulbul, Hypsipetes leucocephalus, that you saw? They also have a similar white head and are listed on zootierliste for Beauval.

There are some striking differences between the two, however, and if you did see thomsoni I suppose Beauval has gotten hold of a new interesting species! I definitely wouldn't put it past them. :D

Just looked at a photo and yes, it was a black bulbul. The sign was very confusing, then. Thanks!

(Chlidonias, could you make the appropriate edit?)

I've just had a short visit to Thailand (more details can be found here: LaughingDove Visits Thailand) and managed two zoos which didn't get me huge number of passerines, but a few unusual species:

Dusit Zoo:
39) Hill Myna (Gracula religiosa)
40) White-crested Laughingthrush (Garrulax leucolophus)
41) Black-throated Laughingthrush (Garrulax chinensis)
42) Black-naped Oriole (Oriolus chinensis)

Khao Kheow Open Zoo:
43) Black-crested Bulbul (Pycnonotus flaviventris)
44) Golden-crested Myna (Ampeliceps coronatus)
45) Greater Racket-tailed Drongo (Dicrurus paradiseus)
46) Blue-winged Leafbird (Chloropsis moluccensis)
47) Asian Fairy-bluebird (Irena puella)
48) Greater Green Leafbird (Chloropsis sonnerati)
49) White-vented Myna (Acridotheres javanicus)
50) Black-hooded Oriole (Oriolus xanthornus)
51) Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis)
52) Streak-eared Bulbul (Pycnonotus blanfordi)
53) Straw-headed Bulbul (Pycnonotus zeylanicus)
54) Yellow-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier)
55) Lesser Bird-of-paradise (Paradisaea minor)
56) Red-whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus)

Today we ( my wife and I ) went to Belgium and visited the Olmense Zoo, one of the few collections with still a good collection of Passerines. I can add no less then 16 new species to my year-list, missed even some and from one I still have to find out which species it is !
55) Asian azure-winged magpie ( Cyanopica cyanus ) ( see Asian azure-winged magpie | ZooChat )
56) Green cardinal ( Gubernatrix cristata )
57) Long-tailed glossy starling ( Lamprotornis caudatus ) ( see Long-tailed glossy starling | ZooChat )
58) Meves's long-tailed starling ( Lamprotornis mevesii ) ( see Meves's glossy starling | ZooChat )
59) Greater hill mynah ( Gracula religiosa ) ( see Greater hill mynah | ZooChat )
60) Red-billed blue magpie ( Urocissa erythroryncha )
61) Red-winged starling ( Onychognathus morio ) ( see Red-winged starling | ZooChat )
62) Black-breasted thrush ( Turdus dissimilis ) ( see Black-breasted thrush | ZooChat )
63) Black-throated magpie-jay ( Calocitta colliei ) ( see
Black-throated magpie-jay | ZooChat )

66) Black-throated laughing thrush ( Dryonastes chinensis )
67) White-crested laughing thrush ( Garrulax leucolophus ) ( see White-crested lauging thrush | ZooChat )
68) European starling ( Sturnus vulgaris )
69) Common mynah ( Acridotheres tristis ) ( see Common mynah's | ZooChat )
70) Blackbird ( Turdus merula ) ( see Blackbird | ZooChat ).

Zootierliste mention another 4 species of passerines which should be kept at the Olmense Zoo but these I didn't found ( orange-headed ground thrush, pin-tailed whydah, red-crested cardinal and Sahel paradise whydah ). Esp. this last one is a pitty I didn't see it because the Olmense Zoo should be the only public collection in Europe with this species.....

A visit to the Veldhoven Zoo in the Netherlands brought me 6 new species for the 2017 Challenge ( maybe even 1 more ) :

71) Great tit ( Parus major ) ( see Great tit | ZooChat )
72) Common raven ( Corvus corax ) ( see Common raven | ZooChat )
73) Song thrush ( Turdus philomelos ) ( see Song thrush | ZooChat )
74) Red-billed quelea ( Quelea quelea ) ( see Red-billed quelea's | ZooChat )
75) Crested mynah ( Acridotheres cristatellus ) ( see Crested mynah | ZooChat )
76) White-shouldered starling ( Sturnus sinensis ) ( see White-shouldered starling | ZooChat )

Further I saw an African glossy starling ( see African glossy starling ID | ZooChat ) which I still have to identify and I'm quite sure it's another speciesas the ( still ) unidentified glossy starling I saw at the Olmense Zoo a few weeks ago.

I changed the name of #50 but left everything else untouched (so that Vision's reply makes sense).
