ZooChat Challenge Global 2021

Africa Alive! - 09/11/2021

20. Aardvark (Orycteropus afer)

Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens - 22/11/2021

21. Northern Treeshrew (Tupaia belangeri)

At least, that's what I assume they are. The sign just lists them as "Treeshrew", but zootierliste only lists that species in UK zoos, and the latin name does look familiar.

Big update from yesterday...

Hamerton - 04/11/21

34. Squirrel Glider (Petaurus norfolcensis)

Missed out on the Quoll and both Possum species and I don't think I'll be back before the end of the year so adios Hamerton, you served me well! :)

Exotic Zoo - 25/11/21

35. Tailless Tenrec (Tenrec ecaudatus)
36. Three-banded Armadillo (Tolypeutes tricinctus)

It seems as if everyone here has been busy participating in the challenge :)! Hope everyone is having fun. Apologies if it seems my appearances overseeing the thread have been lacking. I am a busy student, so I'm using my holiday time to catch up on the challenge here. A few things I've noted:

Please remember to include scientific names in your entries please, a reminder to those I've noticed (@amur leopard, @Dhole dude), but anyone else that hasn't been doing so should.

I've enjoyed reading through @Brum and @twilighter 's banter, especially as it lightened the workload of uploading I thought I had to go through :p. I hope you two (and @ThylacineAlive) have had fun taking the lead from me :D. I don't think I'll have many (if any) zoo visits left for me in the year, so I won't be back to reclaim my spot .

Oh, and before I forget: Agoutis are indeed rodents, @Coelacanth18 :p.

Again, apologies for my absence in supervising the thread, and I will take my leave again for a bit of time until my next break (if school hasn’t driven me insane by then :p) in a few weeks, in which I’ll be able to carry through into 2022. Thanks everyone for participating!

Looking through the list I've posted I don't know how I managed to miss this one off, having seen them more than anything else!

ZooChat Challenge Global 2021 - Tracker

You haven't got me down for African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) on the tracker. ;)

Glad to hear you're doing okay. I was slightly worried that our host had gone MIA but I'm relieved to hear it's just normal life getting in the way instead of anything more serious. :)

Ah, you caught me trying to undermine your lead :P. Jokes aside, I didn't have your Rodrigues Fruit Bat either! They were both on the common name sheet, but not on the scientific name sheet ;). Anywho, that's taken care of.

Thanks for the concern :). I sure did appear MIA and I did get the jolts of guilt when I saw others correcting mistakes in place of me . But yes, I'll be checking in only when I'm off on break pretty much (from August till now was a pretty long stretch, but winter break is only three weeks after Thanksgiving Break which is now, and winter break carries over into the New Year).

But was it at Hoo or Dudley, now that is the question...? ;)

Also you didn't number it. Does that mean you now have to see it again?? :p:D
Hoo! Made a right mess of that post!! Do Dudley have them anyway? Didn't see any there!

44.Round-eared Elephant shrew/Macroscelides proboscideus

Very nice, guessing Plzen is next then?

Good job I'm only aiming for a podium finish otherwise I'd have been very upset by these latest developments! ;):D

Thank you, my friend :) I didn't mean to upset you. You are making truly great run this year! Plzen brought me to the Czech Republic, of course, but the main reason to visit Prague is the new Darwin Crater. Many of the potential ticks for this Challenge overlap actually, so I don't think Plzen can add a lot to my total.

I saw now, that you're on par with @ThylacineAlive , so It's going to be intresting last days :) I don't underestimate the other three players with 30 +, either. @WhistlingKite24 is living in Australia and he is the previous winner. @ZooBinh is the creator of the Challenge. And who would dare to underestimate @pipaluk ?

Since Thylo has been awfully quiet recently I'm hoping he has finished his total now, even with the Tamandua still within his grasp. :p

Living in Australia is great for marsupials, but I'm not sure there's too much he (she?) can add without travelling a substantial distance. But it is summer down under, so maybe it's their time for a holiday...

@ZooBinh is the creator of the Challenge.
He's ruled himself out, he's not much of a threat to me now! :p

And who would dare to underestimate @pipaluk ?
I'm hoping @pipaluk has decided to go all out and be the UK winner for the Europe challenge and will be nice and let me claim the UK crown for this one... ;):p:D

Not upset at all, I'm aware you want the European itle and unfortunately you're also having to see all these cooler mammals as well. No hard feelimgs at all.
And yeah, my run is going well but I think it helps that I go to a lot of smaller places with smaller stuff. Really helps boost the total when so many other eligible species are found outside of the UK.

I've had a blast with this challenge though, and I'm hoping I can add at least one or two more before the end of the year! ;):D

Seems like, I underestimated you :) You have seen the bigger picture, obviously. I hope you will be able to grab some cool last minute stuff :) UK delivers really good for this Challenge.

Yes, my main goal was to see all the European Ungulates and this brings you to the heavy mammal orientated zoos. Have a lot of joy following yours and the others steps this year and hope that we will not excpirence new lock downs and be able to participate again.
