Rosamond Gifford Zoo:
85. Feathertail Glider- Acrobates pygmaeus
86. Large Hairy Armadillo- Chaetophractus villosus
87. Fennec Fox- Vulpes zerda

I would've expected more species since this zoo does have a designated nocturnal exhibit, but at least I managed three more species (two of which were lifers). It looks like I'll be very close to hitting the 100 mark, not sure yet if I'll pull it off or not though, I'm hoping to.

Göppingen Zoo visited on 26.11.2022

52. Indian crested Porcupine (Hystrix indica)

AFRICA ALIVE - 30/9/2022

88. Aye-Aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis)

WINGHAM WILDLIFE PARK - 27/11/2022

89. Senegal Bushbaby (Galago senegalensis)

WILDWOOD DISCOVERY PARK - 28/11/2022

90. European Badger (Meles meles)
91. Eurasian Beaver (Castor fiber)

With all said and done, it's looking like this may well be it for the Global Challenge. Still 91 animals isn't a bad score all things considering.

No Spix night monkey at Wingham or have you already done that?

Took a three day trip to Kent, and visited three of the local zoos...suffice to say, got quite a few valid species.

HOWLETTS WILD ANIMAL PARK - 7/3/2022

32. Indochinese Clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa)
33. Dhole (Cuon alpinus)

50. Little Owl (Athene noctua)
51. Short-Eared Owl (Asio flammeus)
52. Tawny Owl (Strix aluco)
53. Eurasian Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo)

Wildwood was easily the biggest disappointment of the lot, with several no-shows and several more off-site due to enclosure maintenance. But hey, that owl count....

No Spix night monkey at Wingham or have you already done that?

Already had it from the visit quoted above :).

Fair enough, just surprised you managed anything extra on 2nd visit

TBH, I couldn't have seen the Night Monkey even if I wanted to. That part of the tropical house was undergoing refurbishment.

The bushbaby was admittedly a very happy accident. It was our second trip around and whilst my Dad went to the Bug House, I decided to skip it (bugs just ain't my thing, especially tarantulas) and decided to see if I could see the bushbaby, an animal I had not seen since they arrived at the zoo. As it happened, the keeper was changing its bedding at the exact moment I decided to pop in.

Visited Chessington Zoo (20/11/22) today on their last 'Zootastic Weekend' of the year:

78. Common Raccoon (Procyon lotor)
79. Striped Skunk (Mephitis mephitis)
80. Bush Dog (Speothos venaticus)

Previously visited this one in 2017 and must admit the collection seems to have dwindled somewhat since. It's also worth noting both their website and Zootierliste are outdated when it comes to held species. Obviously the clouded leopards are gone but still listed, likewise with the scimitar-horned oryx. Zootierliste doesn't list any of their owls either.
Was a bit disappointed that their SeaLife Centre has a very outdated species list and neither the epaulette or bonnethead sharks appear to be present, replaced by young blacktip reef sharks and nursehounds respectively. Still enjoyed the SeaLife very much though! Maybe even the best part.

On the whole the collection just feels a bit unloved, lots of empty enclosures in the Wanyama Village and a couple in the Trail of Kings too. Large portions of the AMAZU were cordoned off too, which was disappointing for a 'zoo day'. As usual the ZUFARI animals were unviewable.

The whole place is like a maze too! I wouldn't be rushing back. Was hoping it'd be quiet on a cold zoo weekend with closed rides but still plenty of people running around and bashing on glass and screaming unfortunately.

On more positive lights though, Land of the Tiger was a pretty interesting area and a nice new addition, the owl displays were nice too. Also got a lovely view of the bush dogs being fed and the giraffes.

Anyways, three more species for the challenge! I think the only possible species I missed was the Tengmalm's Owl (If they still hold them). May be my last entry for the year if I don't manage to make it back to London. Thoroughly enjoying/enjoyed this challenge though!

Managed to squeeze another collection in before the year is out!

Tilgate Nature Centre (29/11/22):

81. African Pygmy Mouse (Mus minutoides)
82. Turkish Spiny Mouse (Acomys cilicicus)
83. African Dwarf Dormouse (Graphiurus murinus)
84. Long-Nosed Potoroo (Potorous tridactylus)
85. Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides)
86. Henkel's Leaf-Tailed Gecko (Uroplatus henkeli)

Really enjoyed this one - lots of new species for me too! A great little collection with some really interesting fauna. Saw pretty much everything too despite it being a freezing day. Also had the place to myself for probably the last three hours which helped! I think there were only two no shows, one of which would have been eligible for this challenge (African pygmy hedgehog).

Will definitely visit Tilgate again though!

Visited Regent’s Park again today for the second time this year. Managed to tick off the four species I missed last time for the challenge.

London Zoo (8/12/22):

87. Lesser Hedgehog Tenrec (Echinops telfairi)
88. Boseman’s Potto (Perodicticus potto)
89. Aye-Aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis)
90. Southern Tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla)

Was actually really pleased I managed to see all of these guys! Visited the Aye-Aye’s when I first arrived at 10 but were nowhere to be seen. Went downstairs into the nightlife area and after a little bit of waiting ended up with an upfront view of the one of the potto’s by the glass. Great to finally see one irl after spending 3 months traipsing through the forest in Ghana and seeing nothing more than a gnawed piece of bark. The tenrec was a big surprise, all the sign postage suggested it should be hibernating but it was quite happily tottering around and having a drink! This was the one I least expected to see so pretty chuffed!
Went back up to Aye-Aye’s and got a nice view of parents and the youngster. Again, never seen aye-aye’s before (they’re much bigger than expected!) so that was a lovely experience. Lastly went up to the tropical house and got to see the, rather inactive, tamandua’s which I missed last visit so that’s all ticked for this year I believe.

Had a nice day out despite the cold weather. Didn’t manage to see everything despite being there from opening to closing (I think I spend too much time in the twilight, tropical and Blackburn houses). Mother tiger was definitely mourning her cub and nice to see some new species in the Blackburn pavillion since my last visit earlier in the year. Also thought the new colobus walkthrough looked really good. Unfortunately they were all indoors due to the cold but it’s great. Could just do with some more colobus and maybe some birds or even bats. Reptile house was still open and most species still on display. Why are they replacing it anyway? It’s good…
Anyway, this might be my last zoo for the year so I think 90 is a nice round number to likely end on. Kinda want to try for 100 but I think it’s unlikely!

Tierpark Berlin got some very interesting species during the last few years and not planning to stop. The Himalaya is officially open and most of the species are back on show, missing only the Transcaspian Urials. Alfred Brehm House is perhaps the best place to see the Bear Cuscus in Europe now and I even managed to see the Red and White Giant Flying Squirrel ! Bittersweet moment @Brum :)

30.10 Tierpark Berlin

308.Bear cuscus/ Ailurops ursinus

I just realiesed that Zagreb put me officialy in 100 Zoo club, which is a precious moment by itself. I am happy to add two very cool species on top of that. I missed the Fat dormouse third time this year, but I've seen it before and put all my cards on the Snow vole. Not regret :)

17.12 Zagreb zoo

309.Balkan snow vole/ Dinaromys bogdanovi
310.Asian garden dormouse/ Eliomys melanurus
