Went to Zoo Miami, first zoo visit in nearly two months.

I actually do have some questions regarding certain animals I saw:

1. I would like to use Green Jay for the Bird Feeder challenge. However, the species seems to be split by some authorities. The Green Jays in Miami are signed as Cyanocorax yncas but the map distribution on the sign matches Cyanocorax luxuosus plus they're never called Inca Jays anywhere. How are you treating this complex?

2. There is a bat exhibit thats outdoors, but the enclosure is set up in a way that its completely dark so much so that its extremely hard to tell which of the three species inside you're looking at. I was wondering if this would count as a nocturnal exhibit (the only bat I could confirm I saw was Seba's Bat which I already used in the challenge, and I won't be counting the other species for the challenge).

Finally back in Wisconsin! I was expecting these last two visits to be horribly rushed messes, but they went surprisingly smoothly! First on the docket is Racine, which was so overwhelmingly mid that I completed it in less than an hour (also, how the herpestidae did I miss the meerkats at all 3 zoos that had them on this trip?!?!??!)

Certified "shamone" moment! And with that, I can peacefully stagnate until July. Seriously, Henry Vilas is useless for this challenge now. The only thing they have that matters for this challenge that I didn't see this past week are their Ornate Box Turtles. I know I'm not going to win, but I've still got plans to increase my score! Just gotta keep those grades up if I want to make them happen...

I thought I had squeezed all the juice out of the ol' Henry Vilas Zoo lemon, but it turns out there's African Bullfrogs in the recently-reopened guest services building! Now all I gotta do is visit when it's open, and actually see some allegedly hard-to-see frogs...

I have only visited two institutions so far this year, the Oglebay Good Zoo in January and the Oregon Coast Aquarium a month ago. I hope that I am not too late to upload my January submission, I know you're meant to keep up with it as it goes, but I did not realize the North American event and Int event were separate and I am not on ZooChat very frequently.
I plan to visit the Pittsburgh Zoo, Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo, Columbus Zoo, and hopefully some others this year, so I will continue to update this as the year goes by!

Looking back, I realized that I also visited the Carnegie Science Center on 1/13/2023. Since it is not a zoo, I didn't record it initially, but it is open to the public and showcases a small selection of herps, fish, and inverts, so I think it meets the qualifications. If it doesn't, please let me know! It doesn't change much, but a few updates:

Embrace the ABCs Challenge (4/18 started):
4. Madagascar Hissing Cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa) (1/2) Carnegie Science Center (1/13/2023)

I'm Hot Blooded (For Cold Blood) (3/24) (5/X):

4. Common Map Turtle (Graptemys geographica) Carnegie Science Center (1/13/2023)
5. Midland Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta marginata) Carnegie Science Center (1/13/2023)

Also realized I completed the One Zoo Wonder challenge with Pinni-Party, so I have two completed challenges.

I visited Connecticut today and went to Beardsley Zoo and 3 other small nature centers nearby. They had surprisingly more new species than I expected and it may have been the most zoo-like facilities I've visited in a single day.

King Penguins counted in the island challenges of 2019.

IUCN says there's small colonies in southern Chile.
The Chilean colony is on one of the islands of Tierra del Fuego, which is an archipelago directly off the southern end of Chile.

I've always seen islands IDed separately on the website, even if fully part of a country. Is that not consistent?
It could be because there is a colony on The island of Tierra Del Fuego (AKA The 'grand' Island of Tierra Del Fuego)
