2) Does a Brown Kiwi on a monitor screen count? (Because isn't the one in the UK only viewable like that?)

No, as that's essentially the same as seeing it on a tv documentary or on a cage label. You've got to see the animal "in the flesh" so to speak (through mesh, glass whatever but not on tv).

It is called, appropriately enough, Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens and it's been open quite some time now, having opened in early 2011.

Would seeing the kiwi at a special viewing evening count if it’s a public event?

Unfortunately, I've got to say no to this (though anyone who has the opportunity to take it should, challenge-counting or not) because:

1. It's a bit too close to a "keeper for the night" experience (not allowed) for my tastes;
2. It's also not dissimilar to Heythrop's restricted opening (not allowed);
3. An underlying principle of the rules is to have as level a playing field as possible and this would give too much of an advantage to those nearby who were significantly more able to visit the handful of nights it's open.

Trip to Twycross Zoo today with the best sightings of the snow leopards I have ever had. Didn't see everything possible for the list, as we skipped a few areas. However, I know I shall be back numerous times so it doesn't worry me.
