ZooChat Challenge UK 2018

@MagpieGoose where did you find the Crimson Rosella at Hoo Farm? I could only find Eastern's in Parrots of the Caribbean [*shudders at pun*].
Thank you for notifying me on this Dorminator as I've just had a quick look back at my photos from my visit and it appears I have mis-identified the Eastern Rosella as a Crimson Rosella, which will take my total for this challenge down to 104.

If there was any clarification about domestic/vs. wild helmeted guinea fowl what would be great as well!
So, you take the lead, for now , only about another 10 zoos to clinch it! Go to Scotland to clinch it, I'm not going there this Year! I should have 150 by end of May, but beyond that 155 is my limit

Now that would be telling ;)

I will say that we used a photo on Zoochat to help us locate the pesky bird.
Very helpful , thanks Zia. Oddly that is the place I thought most likely since people seem to be having problems finding it.

Ha, ok that makes sense! I spent a while in there last time I was at Paignton photographing the emerald doves, might be a good excuse to return...

I've already added Edinburgh, sadly Highland may be out of my reach! I don't see myself adding more than 5 species to the total so this may be only a temporary victory.

No problem, though I was rather hoping you had seen it so I go back and find it at some point!

Are Crimson Rosellas rare in zoos there? Is it one of those things where an animal is too common (and a bird) for the zoos to bother keeping?

Surprisingly so, I don't think I've ever actually seen one in a British zoo. Probably relegated to the "pet" category for many places, plus there's not much conservation concern for them as far as I'm aware.

Even in terms of knowing the general location - it was still a bit of a nightmare to find... but it IS there. I have a really crap photo to prove it.

I don't doubt it, it's quite a deep exhibit without any signage (from memory) so it's no surprise that there is a motmot hanging around there. Paignton's weirdly displayed birds is a major irritation for me....

I think you have counted some of the animals more than once - am I right in thinking we only count them the first time we see them? That's what I have been doing, but worried I might be wrong now...

Indeed, only the first viewing counts -I suspect Zia has made an error.

I don't think she has. There is a total for each collection then the cumulative total, which does not included those that been previously seen?

Exactly this - cumulative total is the important number for the challenge but we are also keeping track of all sightings in the interests of seeing which are the most / least common spots across the whole year.

We have made a few omissions in the spreadsheet though so I will have to make some corrections. We definitely saw Orang's at Paignton for instance...
