I haven't seen many white tigers and Javan leopards with beaks and wings either. @Elephantelephant, if you genuinely didn't know, in this contest you're supposed to vote for the zoo you think is best when it comes to a specific group of animals (in this case birds). Not the zoo you think is the best overall.
I'm sorry, I really didn't know that. I thought the overall impression was being evaluated. In this, therefore, leads Cologne.

I really like Pairi Daiza. Although it is a young zoo, it flourishes at a rapid pace. Cologne Zoo has a great disadvantage because it is surrounded by the city and therefore can not grow. One of Cologne's best houses is probably an elephant house, which is better than in Pairi Daiza. Pairi Daiza has, but more spacious elephant exhibit. I just like Pairi Daiza a lot and it is my favorite zoo. Even good zoos like Cologne are not so amazing (in my opinion). Of course, it also has some mistakes: White Tigers and Javan leopards could have better conditions. Still, Pairi Daiza is the best zoo for me.

You are aware that this match focuses solely on birds and last time I checked Elephants did not have feathers.

Given the above conversation, although it doesn't make any difference to the final result (Pairi still wins the round but Cologne is still safely through to the next round) I would be inclined to suggest that @CGSwans should disregard the vote made by Elephantelephant entirely - it's too late for him to change his vote, his original vote broke the rules, and even a slight difference in score percentages for Cologne now might make a big difference in later rounds, given how very close some of the percentages have been already!

In other words, I think the final score should be:

C3/PD - 0
C2/PD - 15
PD2/C - 15
PD3/C - 1

Save for the fact that Pairi and Koln have already been mathematically eliminated :p But I agree with you in principle.

Hang on.... in the OP of this thread CGSwans said that Cologne was safely-qualified?

Also:

Group E

Cologne 54 d Denver 9 - miscellaneous mammals
Miami 63 d Pairi Daiza 18 - ungulates and elephants
Cologne 53 d Miami 19 - primates
Denver 44 d Pairi Daiza 43 - carnivores

Cologne 2 wins, 0 losses, 79.7%
Miami 1 win, 1 loss, 52.1%
Denver 1 win, 1 loss, 32.5%
Pairi Daiza 0 wins, 2 losses, 35.8%

One point. One lousy point, and now Pairi Daiza - a zoo that really should be contending to win the entire Cup, is on its way home instead.

With Denver and Miami both on one win each, the winner of their match advances, and I honestly don’t know enough about either zoo to speculate about which non-mammal category favours either one. Pairi Daiza, meanwhile, could whitewash Cologne and it still won’t do it any good: one lousy point has seen to that.

You are right, I misread. Although, presumably in the next round the percentages will be reset so if I had made a better point it would still stand.

Yes, if the percentages are reset it won't make a difference - my suggestion was grounded on the assumption they'd carry over :P

I thought about that, but I don’t think it’s fair - it effectively rewards zoos that have relatively easy groups to get through, and penalises others for being good enough to fight their way through tough ones. Everything needs to reset.

@vogelcommando , it is a bit unfair to judge a zoo by their enclosures in the mid 2000s. Cologne does keep Golden-bellied leafbirds, they arrived last year and are on show in the rainforest house.

Oke maybe unfair but its what I saw with my own eyes but from what is written it seems to be better at the moment as what it was in the mid-2000s. Evenso I still am the opinion that Pairi Daiza has the more diverse bird-collection and more rareties and with a week spot for birds like Hummingbirds, shoebills ( world-first-breeding ! ) and rare amazones I'm not gonna change my score :) !
About the Golden-bellied leafbirds : I know them under the name Orange-bellied or Hardwicks leafbird and also this species was together with the Golden-fronted the most commonly avaible species of Leafbird in the 1970s / 1080s and also for this species I've taken care at the privat collection and at Walsrode.

I’ve discussed this with our Cup video review umpires @FunkyGibbon and @lintworm and we have agreed it is appropriate to disregard @Elephantelephant ’s vote.

Usually I wouldn’t do this because it doesn’t affect the results, either within the match or overall standings within the group. However, the rule breach here is so clear that we feel it’s appropriate to step in, if only as an opportunity to remind everybody of how the game works.

I also want to note that we were all very comfortable that Elephant^2 didn’t mean to break the rules, but instead simply wasn’t familiar with them. I hope they will continue to participate in the rest of the tournament. :)

As PD still wins this tie & is still illimininatad, does this make any difference?
