I had previously been pretty laissez-faire about future plans but the Singapore discussion raised a red flag for me. Most zoos have ‘plans’ at some level of development, from the conceptual to the under-construction, but I’m inclined to the view that debate needs to focus on what ‘is’ rather than what ‘will’, or indeed ‘might’ be.
There are also species such as Polar Bear, Spectacled Bear, Serval, Common Genet, Raccoon, Striped Hyena, Bobcat, Yellow-bellied Marten and Red Panda in enclosures that for the most part range from average to mediocre in quality...with the exception being the Spectacled Bear habitat which is very nice. All of that gives the Tierpark at least 23 carnivore species.
I did not mention Arabian Striped Hyena, Bobcat and Yellow-throated Marten in my review of Berlin Tierpark because I definitely did not see any of those species........how can a methodical visitor such as myself miss a trio of carnivores? You know why? The Tierpark is too damn big!On a side note, I think out of more than 80 zoos reviewed so far, I've only ever seen a Bobcat at Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem. It is clearly a species that is practically unheard of in European zoos. How many zoos on the continent even have Bobcats?
There is no doubt that Berlin Tierpark has more carnivore species than Woodland Park Zoo, but the Seattle establishment has Jaguar Cove and Northern Trail...with Jaguar and Grizzly Bear habitats that are far better than anything the Tierpark can even dream about. Two great zoos, but I'm sticking with my 2-1 WPZ vote.

1) Whereabouts exactly is the second dhole exhibit of which you speak, and do you have any photographs you can share? When I last visited in September 2018, only the pre-existing woodland exhibit was present (which judging from your above post, you would tend to agree with myself is a pretty nice enclosure overall).
2) I'd argue there's nothing wrong with the Ratel/Margay/Binturong/Mongoose row, nor the Spotted Hyena and Altai Lynx exhibits.
Hmm, I was going to vote 2-1 for Woodland Park based on having better enclosures even though fewer species; but those photos posted by twilighter all look really nice so combined with the higher species count I'm going 2-1 for Berlin instead.
The former ABH Ratel, Margay,Binturong row of exhibits are not visible now and personally believe, that gives advantage for Berlin, rather to draw them back. Cos, if we not consider future plans, it is fair not to consider outdated areas, that are already closed also.
It IS fair to consider outdated off-show areas, if they are still in use. Does anyone know if that is the case for the ratel etc row?
The Malayan sun bear enclosure is still a disgrace (though it will be gone soon),
a disgrace ..... as is the Ratel enclosure.
Yikes, that looks really small...The ratel enclosure isn't massive, but by no means is it a disgrace:

Holy cow, that is clearly inadequate for a Ratel! The ratel enclosure isn't massive, but by no means is it a disgrace:

Yeah, it really is. I'm with @lintworm in calling that a disgrace.4x4x3 metres for a single Ratel (plus however big the offshow indoors space is) isn't that bad
