This then brings up an interesting point: where are the other seals kept when not on-exhibit? What's the off-show space look like?

That space is behind the on-show area. Not all of it is visible, but the part is, and it looks very similar to the on-show area. Size is hard to judge (you can't see all of it), but it looks like it has larger land area.

So is the Minnesota Trail. Minnesota Zoo has won two AZA awards for complexes with large carnivore exhibits.

So has Bronx :p

Tiger Mountain and Himalayan Highlands both have won AZA awards, with the former receiving Top Honors while Minnesota Trail won for Significant Achievement (RGC got Top Honors tbf and HH won before separate categories existed). Both of Bronx's exhibits are older as well, with TM winning in 2004 and HH back in 1987. Minnesota's exhibits won in 2008 and 2009. This means that Bronx's exhibits, particularly HH, have been excellent for significantly longer than Minnesota's, and have stood the test of time in exhibit quality. Not to mention Minnesota Trail simply includes carnivores in it, whereas both of the Bronx exhibit are centered around them.
