ZooChat Journal Club

Every year, plenty of interesting research articles are published in scientific journals dealing with the topic of captive wildlife and zoo animals. I thought it would be interesting to many members here to add a thread to post scientific articles about zoos and captive wildlife that one finds particularly interesting, and providing an opportunity to discuss the findings of these articles.

For starters, I found an interesting article today about how habitat choice improves welfare in captive American black bears, showing how pacing behavior was less common when bears were given "full access" to their exhibits than when only given "limited access". This research was done at the North Carolina Zoo. The article can be read here:
