Not technically a Lazarus taxon; not originally described from fossils or other material believed to represent an extinct species. Think closer to home...

Yours is the last “normal” reptile question before the end of chapter one.
Thanks.

The longevity record for a particular reptile species is held by an individual that died after living in a zoo for forty-six years.

(a) what species of reptile ?
(b) what zoo ?

I'm sorry, that's not the answer and there are records of Chinese alligators living a lot longer than forty-six years.

I suspected so :P but I know a long-lived animal which was the last survivor of the Dathe days recently died there, so it was worth a crack!

So, for the chapter ending Reptile and Amphibian question, a hopefully well known fact; what skin adaptation allows the Thorny Devil to deal with one of its major challenges in a unique way? Also, anyone want to confirm what chapter comes next?

The thorny devil drinks by placing its leg in water or walking through dewy plants to get water onto its back. It moves its mouth up and down to pump water through the grooves between its spikes until the water reaches its mouth.

The next subject is Marine Life

what skin adaptation allows the Thorny Devil to deal with one of its major challenges in a unique way?
The thorny devil's skin has channels between the scales that carry water to its mouth by capillary action. This enables the lizard to drink the moisture (e.g. condensed dew) that collects in the sand.

EDIT sorry "Dassie rat" our posts crossed. You got there first.

Thanks, Tim and Tetzoo Quizzer

Which marine animal continually changes its external shape and occasionally forms spherical phases, which may aid movement?
