Zoochatters and their accents

I would feel a little bad, because all your fellow UK Zoochatters would be talking about what a grand fellow I was when they met me. (UK Zoochatters, as I understand it, all speak like they live in the early 1800s). But there's only so much time I can set aside for meeting people. Someone has to be snubbed.

They do? I’m definitely going to be a letdown to anyone who meets me, in that case! I’m much more Brookside than early 1800s!
I don't know what Brookside is. Is it some kind of tv show? That won't do at all.

From Wikipedia: “Brookside is a British soap opera set in Liverpool, England. The series began on the launch night of Channel 4 on 2 November 1982, and ran for 21 years until 4 November 2003.”
So they all talk like Lister? If you'd said Red Dwarf instead of Brookside I'd have known immediately what you meant.

Does that mean you sound like Leanne Cheung from Airline. I actually like that accent.

Maybe I should base a UK Zoochatter trip around how good their accents are.

Yes! Lister is bang on! I don’t know Leanne Cheung, but if she sounds similar, then you’ve got a pretty good idea of my voice!

I'm thinking about planning a UK trip for the sole purpose of snubbing Brum.

Brum much prefers pubbing to snubbing!

It would certainly be interesting to learn what you make of my accent, considering all five Zoochatters I met on my recent trip to the Low Countries got it completely wrong :p

Do West Midlands folk not even like their own accents?

No, we f***ing hate it! If I here a Brummie on TV I can barely watch it! :p

Once upon a time I used to prefer clubbing to snubbing...

And on a related note an, Aussie (@zooman) couldn't quite distinguish any difference between mine and @TeaLovingDave's accents. Anyone who has met us would normally say that's a ludicrous statement! :)

I guess I would struggle to distinguish the difference between a Sydney / Melbourne / Perth / Canberra / Brisbane accent, too, though.

I think I did snub Brum when I went to the UK :p but I did meet Dave and I have heard the horror stories of trying to understand a Brummie accent so I can say with confidence that you probably sound quite different! :p

The most interesting accent I found on my trip was that of @devilfish, who I found to not have a distinguishable accent in the slightest :p

Can someone give me an example of a Birmingham accent (as in, any well-known person I would be likely to have heard or can watch on Youtube) so I know what it sounds like?
