This year I have decided to have very much a tongue in cheek look forward to 2013,and will look at a far greater number of collections, but at the same time there could be a few nuggets that could be true, and other bits that have happened this year that could benefit 2013!!

First off Suffolk Wildlife Park finally gets rid,of all its South East asian species and actually lives up to the name Africa Alive!!

Amazon World adds to its already superb collection of Armadillos by adding Giant to the collection.

Amazona Zoo opens all year for the first time and adds yet more South American Cats to the collection.

Arundel WWT some how manages to get its hands on some more Blue Ducks

Banham Zoo nothing actually happens in 2013 just like 2012.

Belfast Zoo as normal they throw a few surprises with new species arriving and continue breeding the Red-backed Bearded Saki, and again achieve a UK first breeding,so no pressure to our friends at Belfast from me then!!!

Birdland keep Edinburghs King Penguins and have their best breeding year for over 10 years with the species, also the new owners start re-building the park and improve facilities for both the visitors and the birds.

Birmingham Nature Centre continue to add to an already superb small collection, and towards the end of the year they surprise us by offering to host a zoochat day at the centre.

Drayton Manor Theme Park has a change of zoo manager, and exciting new plans annouced as a result, including a new Reptile Breeding Centre which is named after the late John Foden!

Dudley Zoo merges with the Black Country Museum and as a result Peter Suddock leaves the zoo.

[Tongue in cheek - emphatically]

Chester moves its entire animal collection off-show "to enhance our breeding programmes". Visitors pay £29.95 each to view animatronic elephants, animatronic dinosaurs and animatronic keepers, and lots of 'interesting' plants.

Attendances break the 2million mark.

Howletts & Port Lympne:

Damian Aspinall announces that not only are Howletts & Port Lympne not zoos, but the specimens on display are not animals!

Twycross reduces its collection of primates to 2 gorillas, one lar gibbon, and 62 chimps.

It rebrands itself as The Universal Primate Centre.

I too hope you're wrong about Rajang! Another one for Colchester- they announce further delays in the completion of the sun bear enclosure, it will now open in the summer......... Of 2015! But dont worry in the meantime they are bringing in a much more exciting species- Blackpool's dinosaurs, and the bears will be ok to live in their current cage for another 2 1/2 years!

Oops looks like I have up set the cult of Rajang yet again, hate to say it he is not getting any young and he will die someday, and i'm sure we will all know it when he does by the amount of crying from his cult followers on this forum!:p:o

Stick the warthog sausages where the monkey sticks its nuts:),Regarding Flamingo Land, seriously, if things had have been different, this zoo had the potential of being a first class zoological garden without the fairground rides, it certainly has the acreage, it could have been on a par with Chester, however, in its present state it does give the folk of North Yorkshire and the North East the opportunity to view an interesting A.B.C. collection when also going on the rides, Harewood House Bird Garden, sad how that place has turned out, again, this had the potential of being a first class establishment.

While on the letter L, one closed establishment that I would like to see reopen is Lambton Lion Park in County Durham, another one that had the potential of being a good place zoologically, alas, closed at the end of the 1980 season. A garden centre situated near to the entrance of the safari park, continued trading until it even closed this year, I used to go there to buy not only plants etc. but in 2000 purchased two budgies, who I am delighted to say are still going strong and are next to me now while I write this, they were £10 each, I payed cash, didn't get them on "higher perches".

Blackpool Zoo annouces that the Dinosaur's will leave at the end of the year and a large new exhibit built on the site.

I hope that this does happen if true. The Dinosaur's are very boring, if they were animated like Chester's they'd be more interesting, however I as well as some of the Zoo staff wish it would be an Animal exhibit rather than a Dinosaur exhibit.

Loving this thread, just trying to work out what is fact and what is fiction lol
