Just as a general note, the Zoohistorica website appears to be down - judging by the "under construction" splashpage the domain name looks to have lapsed.

It be nice to have a lift off you, if that is fine (will ofcourse do my bit on the petrol). Not sure yet where I am staying on the weekend. I suppose there is more folks needing transport too I suppose who have not yet registered their interest.

Cannot seem to book into the Travelodge just yet (for some unexplicable reason). :confused:
 
Many thanks for all those involved in helping others to get to the farther reaches of the event...nearly at capacity now,some folks from Prague Zoo are the latest to ask for a table.As ive indicated before if you collect zoo ephemera in any way you will probably not see an array of stuff like this in the UK for a long,long time..or if you just like zoo tours,a few talks,a light-hearted quiz...or folks with an enlightened,like-minded viewpoint,then this is for you.
 
Here is a more detailed timetable for those attending ZOOHISTORICA:

Friday 13th. - 'Icebreaker' from 6:00pm., at The Mall pub, 66 The Mall, Clifton, Bristol BS8 4JG - 10 minutes walking distance from Bristol Zoo.

Saturday 14th.
8.45 to 9.30am. Access to tables and entry to the venue. This can be directly from College Road into the Clifton Pavilion at the side of the zoo.
(Parking is available in the zoo's car park opposite)
10.00am. Official opening of ZooHistorica 2013
1.00pm. Official tours / afternoon in the zoo. Trial of beta version of Bristol Zoo's new zoo history smartphone app. - please bring along your internet-enabled smartphones or tablets!
**Through the afternoon a 'silent' auction of job lots of material will be
available to view and to make offers. This will involve placing a folded,
private written bid on the pile of material you are interested in**
6.00pm. Presentation (in English and German) of the new addendum to "What Zoos Can Do" by Anthony Sheridan.
6.30pm. Buffet meal (vegetarian option available) plus bar.
7.30pm. Zoo Quiz for Conservation - entry £1 per person, teams of 2 - 4 persons, with a prize for the winning team.
8.30pm onwards. 'Golden Auction', in the traditional style, of rare and interesting items. Preceeded by a historical presentation of Bristol Zoo's guidebooks by Sarah-Joy Maddeaux and Andy Flack.

Sunday 15th.
10.00am. 'Wild Place' - Bristol Zoo's new attraction [Bristol BS10 7TP]
2.00pm. Slimbridge, tour and presentation.

Really looking forward to my first ZooHistorica !

I will be staying in Clifton near the Zoo . Would be happy to give lifts to Wild Place and Slimbridge on the Sunday but will not be returning to Bristol after .

I am thinking of a visit to Noah's Ark on the Friday afternoon to have a look at the new 'Elephant Eden' , might even be an elephant or two there by then !
 
I've now managed to free up the weekend. Accommodation is being arranged, and I'll be driving to and from Warwickshire. Another zoochatter will be hitching a lift, and others are welcome if it's convenient. :)
 
If any of you out of towners - non-Bristolians - will travel up north to say Gloucester, Cheltenham (Spa) or Birmingham that would be most welcome as I will need to travel to Chester that Sunday eve

I will be happy to share your friendly company on the day, the petrol costs and of course a special and most enjoyable day!

P.S. I am staying in Clifton (also).

Hi all l will be driving down from Chester to Bristol on the Thursday afternoon if anyone would like a ride?

Then driving from Bristol to Dover after lunch, if that is of any use to any Zoochatter ?

What is the fee for registration, l will be leaving Bristol Zoo Saturday afternoon if that makes a difference?

The normal registration fee is £40 (46 Euros).
zooman - as you won't be attending the Saturday evening meal / events, it may be that the fee can be reduced - but it's not my sole decision: will liaise with the other organisers.

I have managed to sort out accommodation, unfortunately for some inexplicable reason the Cribbs hotels are all fully booked... ;) I'm now staying just outside of Cribbs in a pokey B&B which is about a mile away from there, so hopefully will still be able to socialise without too much hassle.
I'm really looking forward to my first ZooHistorica and also my first visit to Slimbridge and Wild Place. Also, it has been too long since my last visit to Bristol zoo!

I think I may be sorted for transport now, if something changes then yes, I would like to be picked up from there on the Sunday though.

Really looking forward to this event, one of the best things about zoo-enthusiasm is the zoo enthusiasts themselves. I've already met some great people and I hope this will give me the chance to make some more friends, whilst at the same time visiting some great collections and hopefully obtaining some interesting memorabilia. I don't have much but will have a very small handful of spare guidebooks. Also hoping to pick up something of interest to display in a new house when we move [maybe a poster or a sign].

As an aside, we were doing some clearing at AG's house and I came across a Magpie Annual from 1977, inside of which was a 5 page article on Endangered Species written by John Knowles [complete with some pictures from Marwell]. For personal reasons I don't want to give up the original copy however I have taken a black-and-white photocopy if the Bartlett Society would be interested in this?
 
Its all looking rather good even if Sundays weather forecast isnt too brilliant-the auction will surely be the most interesting ever as Bristol are disposing of their archive of guides[theres one or two I need for sure!].Sooty Mangabey is responsible for the quiz[or most of it,bearing in mind hes strange but wise].There are still a small number of places available but they cant now include the evening meal[therefore a reduction].I attend this event every year and what I like about this one is the number of new faces and mostly Brits at that.Ive ended up as the main coordinator I suppose, so you will have the pleasure of meeting someone even stranger than Sooty M.! As mentioned on another thread IZES members will have the latest Zoo Grapevine given out at the event.
