Zoologica Podcast

Well, I made an allusion to this in my thread on animals discovered since 1900, and have decided that I will make my plans completely known. I am working on creating a podcast devoted entirely to the animal kingdom. As far as I can tell, nothing like this has ever been done before. I have not published the podcast yet, but I hope to in the next few weeks. I have just finished editing the scripts of several episodes and should have about 8 fully finished shows to upload to iTunes when ever I get a website to host the files. Some info on the podcast. If life doesn't get in the way, I plan on having a new episode every week which is one reason I am getting about 8 or so done before I fully publish it. Each episode with focus on a single species or several closely related species. Episodes, apart from the 1st three shows, will be grouped thematically. So far the episode list is:

1. Tigers
2. Gharial and Tomistoma
3. Saiga

4-8 Rhinos
4. Rhino intro and White Rhino
5. Black Rhino
6. Indian Rhino
7. Javan Rhino
8. Sumatran Rhino

Episodes 1-7 are all written and edited, and 1-4 are completely recorded (I plan on getting the other recorded today after lunch). The next series will be on animals discovered since 1900, hence the previous thread. I am think about following this up with cryptic species (animals that have been recently separated into different species e.g African Forest Elephant, Kewel and Imbabala, and the 6-9 species of Giraffe). I am completely open to suggestions on further animals or ideas. The actual information will not be a cut and dry "here's the facts" presentation, but as much as I can make it a cohesive story about the animal, its natural history, evolution, environment, impact on people, people's impact on them, and even some pop culture references. If you can tell from my thread on Texan zoos, I will try and make it as humorous as possible, although that's really hard when talking about how there are only 50 Javan Rhinos left in the world.

If anyone is interested, I do need help with a few things like graphics and most of all web hosting. If you know of a good site that is relatively inexpensive to register a domain name and host the podcast, I am all ears.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Hopefully it will be out by the end of the month!

No worries cat-man. I just finished recording another episode and hope to get two more done today. At that point it will be nearly two hours of listening.

Well, after many months of work, I have finally published my podcast. The first two episodes are up at my new website zoologicapodcast.com. Go take a listen, tell me what you think. I'm open to all criticism. In the next few weeks more episodes will follow and hopefully it will show up on iTunes. I've already got 5 more episodes recorded and ready to go.

Since it has been about 3 months since I last posted on this thread I though I would give my podcast another plug. I've uploaded 14 episodes so far and am currently working on getting number 15 up. if you want to listen go to Zoologica Podcast or look it up on iTunes.

I just found this thread and I've just started listening. I think you're doing a great Jon on this, and now after a few episodes I've also gotten used to that accent :)

I commute to work so this helps me alot.

I hope you will find the motivation to continue this for a long time.

Oh man, I listened to first four episodes of your podcast today and I can´t get enough of it, it´s great!!
I love the way you´re talking about all those issues like Tradicional Chinese Medicine, WWF and Saiga population, inbreeding of White Tigers... Great!!

And it was hillarious when you didn´t even try to pronounce "Hradec Králové" :-D

Do you have a way of telling how many people are downloading it? I hope a lot, those are things people need to hear! ;-)

BTW, the "subscribe" button doesn´t seem to work on my iTunes, I have to download one episode at the time from the iTunes Store. Is it only me or do others have the same problem?

Anyway, thank you very much for this podcast, it made my day!

Unfortunately, I stopped doing the show last year some time. I didn't have a huge listenership or feedback. If I were to start it up again, I would have to move sites as I do not condone some of the ethics of the owner of my provider. If there is enough interest I might start back again.

Oh really?? :( I´m sorry to hear that.....But then again, how many people are actually using iTunes for education? From all the people I know it´s only me and my partner. We live in a world full of ignorants!

It´s really sad, you´ve put so much effort in it, so much time...

:( :mad::confused::mad::(
