ZooParc de Beauval Zooparc de Beauval News 2020

As I have posted the informations on the french forum, I can say :
- the harpy eagles will arrive next week and will be off-show until their house will be completed.
- the doucs (1.4) are awaiting some authorizations from the government to arrive. As soon as they arrive the grey langurs will go back to their past exhibit. Two keepers went to Chleby to learn about the doucs (see on Chleby's Facebook page).
- others animals will be presented in the dome in the next days or weeks such as earless monitors, emperor scorpions, stick insects...

Other interesting informations :
- red titis (arrived last year) are due to join the golden lion tamarins in the dome in replacement of the white face sakis,
- Red-bellied tamarins arrived in the monkey house (where other tamarins and marmosets are on-show),
- the pied tamarins are no longer on show (I don't know if they have left the park),
- the sloths returned to the bird house in there past exhibit and were joined by azara's agutis.
- lace monitors (10 zoos in Europe according to ZTL) arrived last year and are on show in the reptile house.
- some Madagascar stick insects (look like Achrioptera fallax) arrived in the reptile house.
- a new elephant bull is coming from Safari de Paugres in March.
- the past manatee's pool will be refurbished to house fresh water rays and fishs.

Do you know what species of freshwater stingray? I suppose it needs to be something big.

They want to put the stingrays already kept at the park (such as ocellate river stingray Potamotrygon motoro and vermiculate river stingray Potamotrygon castexi) and other species I don't know.

Regarding the manatees, they are nine in the Dome at the moment (including the last baby). Another birth is expected soon and two manatees are coming in the next weeks. So the zoo will keep a group of twelve manatees finally.

Other information I can reveal now is that a big walkthrought aviary is expected for 2022. Refurbishments will undergo in the park too.

At last, I missed to tell you that the Matschie's tree kangaroos are no longer on show. The old pair is off-show. Their previous exhibit in the Australian House is occupied by the second pair of Goodfellow tree kangaroos.

What kind of species in here? African? South American? Asian?
And do you know where in the park it will be located?

I can't say the theme but the aviary will house some of the birds already kept in the park.
The project will be on new land. I don't have the answer but I assume it will be in the new "african section" near the birdshow because it's the area of the park in developpment. Off course, there is already an african aviary...

Do you know if they want to keep Matschie's tree kangaroos in the future (as the current pair is very old)?

Some say yes but IMO that will be surprising. Matschie's are a dead end in Europe. I would prefer european zoos to concentrate on Goodfellow's but who knows !

Exactly this agreement was made between the AAZA and the EAZA. This is already the case with other animal species, which also makes sense. So after the death of the few Matschie's left in Europe, europeans have to go to the States to see them again.

Canada is just an appendix to the United States. Large, but only an appendage.;) But with more civilized residents ...:D Successful breeding in North america might the reason for phasing them out in europe..;)

Well - I do like to think we stand up to the bully to our South a fair bit (I am Canadian). We don't really rely on the US very much really... :D
I do think that the North American success has led to a change in focus between the continents, yes.

@Antione Do you know were the two manatees are coming from to Beauval? And is the tank big enough to hold 12 manatees? It sounds a little crowded to me.

Unfortunately not Haasje. Arnhem seems ok for the moment. Paris too. Wroclaw has some place. In this way, I will look to Denmark !

The pool is really large (there are two in fact and an hospital pool) but 12 it's too much. I think it's just for a time, until Budapest finish its dome.

Ahh ok, thanks for your response. Budapest dome is still far from finished, especially now the financing has become a problem. Maybe Duisburg could be an option.

But Duisburg must wait the death of Baby. After, of course, it will be a real possibility.

True, it is a miracle he is still alive. Is their no possibiliy to combine the two? Are will the manatees then just be very big living toys for the dolphin.
