ZooParc de Beauval Zooparc de Beauval news 2022

Many births in Beauval this spring :
7 Arctic Wolves (!), 1 Humboldt Penguin, 8 Malagasy Blue Stick Insects, 2 Siberian Eagle Owls, 3 Common Buzzards, 2 Maras, 12 Aldabra Giant Tortoises, 2 Dwarf Mongooses, 2 Bald Eagles, 3 Roulroul Partridges, 1 Blue Wildebeest, 1 Sitatunga, 1 Indian River Tortoise (?), 1 Red Macaw, 1 Hooded Vulture, 11 Rufous Whistling Ducks and 1 Sun Conure.

Some departures : a troop of Meerkats to De Paay Zoo (Netherlands), 1 male Koala to Madrid Zoo and NUO, young male Red Panda (born in Beauval in 2021) to the Saarbrucken Zoo (Germany).

A pair of Yellow-backed Duikers just came in Beauval Zoo !!!
This species is very rare in European zoos and unique in France for now.
The pair comes from American zoos (Houston and Gladys Porter) and is housed in the Okapi enclosures.
Une nouvelle espèce unique en France a rejoint Beauval ! - Beauval Actus
 Amazing news to have! I remember when the bongo, lesser kudu, and wattled crane paddocks first opened the map depicted a yellow-backed duiker in it, so I'm guessing they have been trying to get some ever since then? Neither less, amazing addition to the zoo, I really want to go back to Beauval.

Yes, Beauval has tried to import Yellow-backed Duikers in 2015 (from the USA) but it didn't manage to have the animals and gave up for some years.

Many births (mainly birds) have occurred in Beauval in late Spring :
7 Abdim's Storks, 1 African Fish Eagle, 1 Brown Wood Owl, 5 Capybaras, 4 Crested Partridges, 3 Fulvous Whistling-Ducks, 4 Upland Geese, 2 Asian Glossy Starlings, 4 Red Ruffed Lemurs, 8 Ringed Teals, 1 Sun Conure, 5 Malagasy Blue Stick Insects, 1 Barbary Ape, 2 Barnacle Geese, 3 Red-crested Pochards, 1 Rainbow Lorikeet, 2 Black Kites, 3 Yellow-billed Storks, 7 Common Shelducks, 2 Brazilian Teals and 2 White-cheeked Pintails.

The young female Red Panda "KAMALA", born in Beauval in 2021, went to Kleve Zoo in Germany.

The last male African Hunting Dog has just been transferred to Wrocław Zoo in Poland.
He was the only remaining member of a pack that arrived in Beauval in 2017.
The zoo hasn't had much success with these animals, with deaths and no viable offspring.
Furthermore the animals have proven to be very elusive in their enclosure.

I don't know yet any plan of reconversion for their former enclosure, in the African zone near the Lions.

The zoo had this species a first time in early 2000's, with no more success in this time.

The show is several time in a day. Are same birds in every show, or species are different in other times?
I will visit zoo Beauval in monday and show will be three times.
Please, do anyone know, when is possile to see Augur buzzard?
Thank you very much

The bird species rotate each year.
On a single day, roughly the same species can be seen.
I've seen the Augur Buzzards several times, but I'm not sure they are displayed this year (I haven't attended the bird show yet this year).

For regular visitors, are the 2 aviaries located near the first bird greenhouse finished ? The work had lagged behind the others, does anyone know what species are currently living there ? These are 2 large aviaries before going up to the raptor sector.
Thank you !

Yes, they have been finished during the spring. They are themed on Indonesia and Philippines.

The female Bornean Orangutan JANAH has just been transferred to the Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon with her 5-year old son KAYAN.
