ZooParc de Beauval Zooparc de Beauval news 2022

Colin Tudge wrote 'Last Animals at the Zoo' 30 years ago. He said that giant pandas should be kept in a group of 2 males and 1 female, as males need to compete in order to interest the female in mating with a male. He said that females have little interest in mating with a single male she has seen on several occasions.
This kind of group is extremely rare in worldwide zoos, except maybe in China (I haven't more information about this).

Regardless, as posted after I asked, the 'third' adult is the son that has not moved due to the covid problems.

What is your source for this? I couldn't find anything about it yet.
It has been said in a French-speaking chat used by Beauval visitors, fans and staff.
Maybe Beauval hasn't yet made public announcement, but I would indicate that the large colony of Barbary Apes (one of the easiest primate species to see in winter, as they are active even when the weather is cold) will be off-exhibit for a while.

My question was about the giant otter pups. I had also quoted that post ;).

A really interesting exhibit for sure.
BTW,Isn't there a resturant/cafe overlooking the exhibit?
Yes there's a small snack called "Le Tsavo" on the top of a terrace.
Not a lot of choice for food (only hot dogs, ice creams and drinks, it I remember), but a perfect place to look over the Hippos and the numerous birds of the aviary.

Births of late autumn : 1 Colombian Spider Monkey, 4 Crested Partridges, 3 Blue Poison Dart Frogs, 5 Giant Asian Pond Turtles (CR species), 2 Humboldt Penguins, 1 Meerkat, 5 Naked Mole-rats, 1 Nyala, 1 Pearl River Stingray, 2 Golden-handed Tamarins and 1 Java Mouse-deer.

Great! One of my favourite turtle species.

One local private breeder sells right now his babies for 115 euro. Was salivating over them this weekend. If only they would not grow so gotdam large, I would already had them home.

To celebrate the first anniversary of Françoise Delord's death the zoo release two infos :
- the zoo decided to give 100.000 euros more to conservation including 80.000 euros for the critically endangered Fatu Hiva monarch Pomarea whitneyi from Tahiti. The money will be given to Lpo (french representant of BirdLife international) and Sop Manu (local NGO) who lead a recovery program.
- the new local wildlife care center will be given the name of Françoise Delord. The building will open next year and could welcome 700 animals et the same time. The zoo hopes to save 5.000 animals each year with this center.
