ZooParc de Beauval Zooparc de Beauval news 2023

Noticed on Howtank forum/chat (by members of this forum) probably a new fish species in the tanks of the Australian Greenhouse : the Yellow-banded Pipefish Dunckerocampus pessuliferus.
It may have been present earlier, but the signage of fish species is currently poor and outdated in this place.

Many news from Beauval, seen on social media (official and fan accounts on Facebook) and on Howtank forum/chat :
  • birth of a second Reticulated Giraffe on 1st October 2023, offspring of MISTRAL and BINTI
  • birth of 1.0 Beisa Oryx called YORUBA on 8th September 2023
  • birth of a White-faced Saki in early September
  • many births among the "minor" species : 1 Bank Mynah, 4 Yellow-billed Teals, 1 Sun Conure, 3 Nicobar Pigeons, 3 Blue-winged Geese, 3 Blue-winged Kookaburras, 5 Dyeing Poison Dart Frogs, 3 Fulvous Whistling Ducks, 5 Scarlet Ibises, 4 Guira Cuckoos, 2 Capybaras, 5 Philippine Sailfin Lizards, 3 Swift Parrots (I've never seen this species in Beauval, it may have arrived recently in the parrot aviary unit, or remain in the backstage) between mid-July and mid-August
  • new signage in the South American aviary, that displays the numerous birds species in a booklet
  • the Coatis will soon be introduced in the South American aviary, the Spider Monkeys and Anteaters are gradually trained to their presence
  • for the first time in its history (!), Beauval will present Halloween-themed animations for the visitors in late October and early November, this year they will be themed on the Mexican Dia de los Muertos (I think that this idea is great).

  • the herp terraria were filled with many Halloween decoration items, it wasn't the case the previous years ;

  • I've seen 2 young Ostriches in the indoor paddocks of the Giraffe house ;
  • the signage about Giant Argus has been removed in front of the Indonesian aviary ; I don't know if this species is still on display ;

A few news from Beauval, where I was yesterday :
  • there weren't any Owls in the Bird Show, that will stop today for the winter months. No closure incidents due to avian influenza to be reported this year (it happened twice in 2022)
  • the Mata-mata Turtles aren't no longer on show
  • conversely the Archerfish school is back on show in the Reticulated Python exhibit
  • there was at least one Pearl Stingray Potamotrygon jabuti (maybe locally bred) in the Albino Alligator enclosure.

Several births have been recorded between mid-September and mid-October in Beauval, including : 1 White-blotched River Stingray Potamotrygon leopoldi, 2 Dwarf Mongooses, 1 Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo, 2 Allison's Anoles, 1 Crested Partridge, 1 Scarlet Ibis, 2 Giant Asian Pond Turtles Heosemys grandis, 1 Victoria Crowned Pigeon and 1 Mhorr Gazelle (first birth of this species in Beauval).

The young female Reticulated Giraffe KIMIA, first Giraffe calf to be born in Beauval (2019), has been transferred to Kronberg OpelZoo in Germany.

A short video released by Beauval Zoo (in French language) shows various news topics, including the breeding of Australian spotted jellyfish Phyllorhiza punctata (the "founders" of the colony were imported from La Rochelle aquarium in late 2022) and the making of a Giant Panda sculpture by the artist Michel BASSOMPIERRE, that will be delivered to the Zoo in 2024.
