ZooParc de Beauval Zooparc de Beauval news 2025

Here are some news of Beauval :

  • Arrival of a Socorro Dove in the Hyacinth Macaw and Bare-Faced Curassow
  • There are now pancake tortoises in the rock monitor (not seen) terrarium
  • There are greek tortoises (I think) in the Golden lion tamarins and the white-lipped tamarins aviaries
  • It’s 2 baby Indian porcupines that were born
  • There is now a galah in the « Philippines » aviary ( with the red-tailed black cockatoo it’s more an Australian aviary)
  • Varanus prasinus are now in the lace monitor terrarium, the old prasinus terrarium is now occupied by the Philippine salfin lizard and the old Philippine salfin lizard terrarium is home to a green python
  • The Madagascar tree boa is gone, there is a sign for Brongersma’s short-tailed python (not seen)
  • Within the statue of Françoise Delord with a Hyacinth Macaw there is an audio tour, telling the story of Françoise Delord and the creation of beauval
  • There is a new species in the bird greenhouse, yellow cardinal (not seen) have joined the blue ground dove aviary
  • There are 2 new signs near the servals enclosure : one is telling the story of the servals housed in Beauval and the other one is explaining the « savannah » business
  • Finally, a crane has arrived behind the African Elephants 3rd yard, some constructions are going on (maybe the new petting zoo)

I went in Beauval yesterday, some news may be reported :
  • a single male Reeve's Muntjac was in the Takin enclosure ;
  • there was a male Fishing Cat (unreported yet, perhaps a new arrival) in the night quarters of the enclosure for this species ;
  • I've seen the Bat-eared Foxes in the new zone "Les Rocs de Dodoma" ;
  • there were at least 4 Pancake Tortoises plus 1 other tortoise (Spider Tortoise ???) in the indoor terrarium of the Elephant house, but not the Savannah/White-throated Monitor and not any signage ;
  • I've seen a juvenile Patas Monkey (not a baby, but maybe a locally born animal a few months ago) ;
  • no more Guinea Pigs in the Petting Zoo ;
  • I've seen the Socorro Dove in the biard aviaries near the Southern entrance, and get a few (and, surprisingly, not so bad) pictures of it.

A rescue project for Marineland’s dolphins is currently being studied by Beauval at the request of the French government.
While Beauval cannot accommodate orcas, a natural lagoon project is being considered for up to 25 dolphins. The facility would include medical pools and prioritize animal welfare. The broader initiative aims to establish a cetacean rescue and research center, as around 65 dolphins in Europe still need placement. Several NGOs (C’est assez !, One Voice, Sea Shepherd France, Tilikum’s Spirit) have expressed support, and discussions are ongoing.

2030 will mark the zoo’s 50th anniversary, potentially the occasion for a major announcement. With Beauval planning to invest between €50–100 million by then, this dolphin project could become one of the park’s next big project.

That’s an interesting development. As far as I understand it they had previously had plans for Dolphins, and were shelved after the French government banned them from being kept in captivity - can anybody confirm if this is true?

If this does go ahead, I expect they’ll have top, top class facilities, rivalling the lagoon in Harderwijck, which is widely considered the best dolphin enclosure in the world.

I've visited Harderwijck and Beauval and I see a little bit difficult that monsieur Delord could create an enclosure that could compete the Harderwijck lagoon... (by cost, landscape, distance from the sea...), but I'm 100% sure that is going to be a 5 star enclosure like the last one made by the company.
