ZooParc de Beauval Zooparc de Beauval News

An update lifted from actuzoo, posted by alexpe8

A couple of the Dallas Zoo Okapi goes well be imported into Europe in the next few weeks. The female, known to be a good breeder will stay Zooparc Beauval. The male meanwhile, is leaving the Antwerp Zoo (European leader in breeding this species and the breeding program coordinator) and one male will come to this same park Beauval. There will therefore 5 Okapi in Saint Aignan, three males and two females, just the number of boxes available.

A female Indian rhino called "Nasi" has arrived at the zoo form the Tierpark Hellabrunn, she joins 1.1 animals at the zoo already.

Two female African elephants are pregnant, both pregnant females M'Bili and M'Dala were impregnated using AI and sperm from wild elephants.
The calves are due in the summer of 2012 .

This will be the first time a calf is born of an insemination performed with semen taken from a wild male in South Africa. The first sperm bank in Europe created by Beauval few months ago is delivering. Now, patience: the little calf does point the tip of his trunk than 23 months after its conception ... dated September!

The new area opens tomorrow but the pictures are previewed on Actu'Zoo :

In summary:

Exhibit for red panda & muntjac

Exhibit for takin & markhor (new species)

Aviary for snow leopard

Great enclosure during finishing for a new species in few weeks !

Are there just 0,2 markhors ? Or did the 0,2 arive in April and the rest in 2009 alongside the Takins.

Any thoughts, ideas on what the other species might be. Dare i suggest giant panda's?

Both the house and the outdoor enclosures, seem custom made for giant pandas and i struggle to see any other suitable species.

At this time there is 0.2 markhor + 0.0.1 offspring born in Beauval but i don't now if more species will arrive after.

About giant panda : no official confirmation at this time too ;)

I would expect they bring in 1.0 markhor from somewhere else for breeding. Any ideas?

For now, the zoo did a test to ensure that the markhor does not save and that cohabitation is going well, it would have been more dangerous with a male.
