Zoorasia Zoorasia news, and updates

idk if there are any holders of Vietnamese argus in the US but if there isn't then I do wonder where those chicks will be brought once they grow up.
At least Saigon / Ho Chi Minh Dai Zoo has a population of the taxon of more than 20 birds (adults 10.7 in 2019.
SOURCE: Species rank for Rheinardia ocellata nigrescens (Phasianidae)

It seems they are making a case for separating Indochinese from Malayan argus pheasant Rheinardia occelata.

I’m glad to hear that there’s an attempt to prevent the clouded leopard population in Japan from being extinct. But I do wonder why Zoorasia had to get an animal from an unaccredited zoo rather than ask from an accredited source.

I'm wondering about that too.
Zoorasia needed a new female after a clouded leopard from Ostrava died in an accident last year while pairing.

Tanganyika Wildlife Park is one of the main reasons the U.S. clouded leopard population is so plentiful. They have to be one of the most prolific breeders in the world

Without a doubt, of all the zoos I visited on my Japanese trip, this was the most beautiful, with the style closest to modern European zoos.

Zoorasia received two indian lions from Singapore in exchange for a breeding pair of kagus from the city’s breeding center. The lions are pretty old (male is 11 years old while female is 13 years old) so I wouldn’t hold my breath for cubs and the spread of this taxa to other Japanese zoos.

Very nice, I hope to see more trades with Singapore and other Japanese zoos. These trades could possibly give Japan some of its former species back or new species to the country.

I suppose it is to free up space at Singapore Zoo to continue breeding from F1 and new unrelated pairing(s). The Singapore portion is very important to the EEP/EAZA and ex situ outside India as direct descendants from a pair imported from India direct.

Any indication which okapi pair or the name of the female that calved? It means that the zoo is still able to breed from their singleton pair (They should have 2.1, the birth was recorded).

As for Przewalski horses ... they now have 0.3 group. Hoping for a stallion before long.

The male's name is Bakari from White Oak Conservation Center, and the female's name is Lala, born at Zoorasia in 2014.

Based on what I've heard, Zoorasia doesn't have any plans to breed them.
