Zoos that close in bad weather

Hi, I am trying to get an idea of which zoos close in bad weather, especially during the snowy periods like we're having at the moment. Is your local zoo still open?
 
Earlier this year we had a few weeks of bad weather and a small few of the UK collections closed not because of the animal collections they held but for the safety of the visiting public the following thread should allow you to see which zoos close during times of bad weather

My Local is Chester Zoo and in the heavy snow falls earlier this year my place of work got closed for the day and I ended up spending about 5 hours in the zoo up to my knees in snow and loving it :O) - the animals that were out were loving it too by the way.
The staff did tell me that if the paths are considered dangerous then they can't open but obviously as a charity and conservation centre they will do their best to open.
 
Been to Yorkshire Wildlife Park today although it says on the website they may close in bad weather.
 
whipsnade closed for a couple of days in the last lot of bad weather but it was more due to the fact the snow we had had frozen solid and anyone who goes to whipsnade knows how open it is up on the downs (and whipsnade hill road is trecerous at the best of times!)
but i did visit the zoo in the snow and it was above welly height but the animals that were out were playing happily in the white stuff.

yesterday when i visited the otters were kept indoors as pool was frozen and also cheetahs were kept in as the moat was frozen over.
 
The highland wildlife park closes if the snows really heavy because its quite hilly.
I Imagine mercedes is having a whale of a time at the moment though !
 
The Highland Wildlife Park is open but the main reserve is closed, previously it had been open only to people in the Park's vehicles.
 
Birmingham Nature Centre closed monday to friday only open on saturdays and sundays untill early April

Bugger! I do hope the high winter snows will not affect the winter time visits by the general public (and their cash flow seeing as they are in a bad patch right now).

Is there no public assistance for zoos on this at all?
 
I dont think there is much public support only private donations .
I gave a hundred pounds as a donation to edinburgh the last time I was there because I had heard it was rough times . It has so much potential
 
Maybe a bit off topic, but Living Desert in Palm Desert/California used to be closed during hot summer months because it was too hot for visitors. I think although that they are not doing this anymore and are open year round.

I don't think there is any public assistance.

Edinburgh was open today and they were/are doing a £5 winter special (I seen it on Facebook, will try and find a link) over the weekend so hopefully they'll have a busy weekend to make up for the poor week.

I think the discount is because you can't get to the top of the hill and some of the paths are closed.
 
I well recall being kicked out of Marwell a few years ago during high winds. I was one of only two visitors in the park at the time. Since I have always been a member I was not out-of-pocket but the member of staff who ejected me was not to know that and no refund was offered. Bad practice.

What's worse, I had been dropped off at the park and was due to be collected at a particular time in the afternoon. Since this was pre-mobile phone, I ended up having to walk back to Fair Oak in high winds and rain. Not happy.
