Zoos with great vistas

here you go:

Many thanks. And: Great picture.

For zoos where you can see another country:

El Paso Zoo (USA) is right on the border of Mexico, which can clearly be seen from zoo grounds. However, I would most definitely NOT classify it as a pleasing scenic vista.

Nairobi Safari Walk has quite a nice view over Nairobi National Park with the potential to see some wild big game from within the zoo (there were loads of wild Baboons, birds and Bush Squirrels inside the zoo itself).

The view from a raised viewing deck that looks over the NP:

Zoo am Meer in Bremerhaven, Germany. The sea as a nice backdrop to the views of seals, polar bears etc.

Having visited Zoo am Meer in June 2016, I can now wholeheartedly second this suggestion :)

On a related note, the next post on my Alpenzoo trip thread is planned to contain a very nice photograph of the view from near the summit of the zoo.

Aside from those already mentioned, a couple that stick in my mind are Zoo de la Barben, because it's tough to beat a hilltop in Provence (chateau included), and the Smithsonian Marine Exhibition Center, with 360° views of the Atlantic Ocean, downtown Panama City, Frank Gehry's Biomuseo, the Bridge of the Americas, and the western entrance of the Panama Canal.

To echo reduakari, though, Monterey Bay really does take the cake. That location is just perfect.

As two of the images from Alpenzoo I linked to earlier in this thread have been taken offline, I thought I would post a few of my own here:

The Werribee open range zoo has some great views of the red clay cliff faces along the Werribee river, which forms a boarder to their main giraffe zebra eland and rhino paddock. An equally interesting view is from the top of these cliffs from within the Werribee Mansion grounds, it looks like a view into Africa with distant animals wandering round plus a few random safari vehicles driving around

Besides several mentioned above which I've visited, the Santa Barbara Zoo and Point Defiance Zoo have nice vistas of the ocean.

Although not a traditional zoo, Skansen in Stockholm (which has a nice selection of larger native Swedish species in quite large exhibits and a collection of many non-fish exotics in its misnamed Aquarium) has a fantastic view of many of the nearby islands and the Baltic Sea.

photo over the chimp enclosure (although I'm not sure I'd exactly call it "great vista":

I like these photos, from the Frankton Zoo by Queenstown (albeit less a "zoo" than a backyard bird collection):

There used to be a place in Queenstown called deerpark which was in the hills across the river which was used for the Lord of the Rings and also had an incredible view Of the Mountains. Not sure if its still open though.
