Zoos with great vistas

I was thinking that actually one of the better views in the UK zoo world is the view up towards the castle at Dudley from the entrance. But I agree with those who nominate Port Lympne's aspect onto Romney marsh.

Further afield the view from Helsinki Zoo (which is on an island in the harbour), looking back into the city is rather striking.

TLD's nomination of Alpenzoo looks to be the frontrunner overall so far!

Just what I was thinking - especially when macaws are swooping over the hillside during the bird displays.

Actually there are some nice views from Flamingo Land too, then there's Paradise Park at Hayle, the views from the bottom of Exmoor Zoo, and if you peep between the houses from the camel paddock viewing area at Paignton...

P.S. The clifftop paddocks at Sewerby are not in the zoo itself, but the deer are part of the collection so with the views of Bridlington Bay...

(the section between the bridge and the stone wall in the water is what they call Europe's largest seal exhibit, but at 15 million l [4 mil gal] I suspect it is by far the largest in the world.)

Although the views over the Oresund strait from Copenhagen's Blue Planet aquarium are great, they don't quite match the nature in the above. Nevertheless, it might be the only zoo/aquarium where you actually can see another country in the distance in good weather (also hint one of the world's longest cable-stayed bridges, the Oresund Bridge).

Considering how close it is to the border with Germany, I suspect that Tiergarten Hellbrunn in Salzburg, Austria would be another example :) and as already noted above, in good weather one can see France from Port Lympne in the UK.

Darn it. Need to learn how the read and I actually visited Port Lympne earlier this year. Oh well :o
 
It's amazing that noboby has mentioned Taronga Zoo in Sydney (so after many critics from my side to this zoo it's time for a praise):

A unique view across the bay, to the harbour and the famous opera house!

Oops. Sorry, you're right. Have to let my eyes checked (Although be honest, Chlidonias: Taronga deserves a bigger picture;)).

It appears the HTML to post a linked thumbnail of the image works, but not the code to do the same for the full-size image....... I managed to get the image to post at a larger size, but only by directly copying the URL of the image and posting it with
