News between February 2014-December 2020:
Births include a (0.1) giraffe in May 2016 named Josie, as well as another (0.1) giraffe named Millie in September 2020. Other births at the zoo include a ring-tailed lemur, a miniature horse, blackbucks, waterbucks, squirrel monkeys, pythons, and cranes (python and crane species not specified). In June 2015, the zoo acquired (2.0) African lions named DJ and Pepe from an unspecified facility. In March 2019, the zoo acquired (6.6) blackbucks and (1.1) waterbucks from a facility in northern Arizona.
In August 2016, the zoo experienced a flood in the lower portions of the area, though no animals were injured. In May 2018, a fire destroyed a portion of the zoo, destroying much of the old train station as well as a couple buildings and other structures. No animals were injured during the fire. Said fire caused a 5% attendance drop. In March 2019, the zoo unveiled its new train, as well as stated that it has built/renovated the area of the zoo where the fire hit, such as building a new playground.
Zooisiana is now in the process of constructing a new giraffe complex, which includes a new barn and more land.

On March 16th, the zoo announced that their (0.1) reticulated generic giraffe named Evangeline has passed away on March 15th after relapsing from chronic leg pain.

Thank you for clarifying. What a fascinating, disturbing thing that two individuals would be stealing monkeys from two different facilities within a day of each other. I hope the squirrel monkeys are recovered safe and sound as the tamarins were.

Jolie the white tiger had to be euthanized on Friday, June 30 at the age of 19 due to age-related kidney failure and mobility issues.

On March 9th, it was reported that the zoo acquired (1.1) plains zebras (later named Kito and Lulu) in January which are now on exhibit with the facility's common ostrich and blackbuck. It was also reported that the zoo acquired (0.2) dromedary camels named Krinky and Leslie in January which are now on exhibit in the former giraffe enclosure (the giraffes are in a new exhibit by the zebras). Finally, it was reported that there is a renovated lemur exhibit next to the squirrel monkeys.
