This thread is to serve as a dedicated space for collecting, discussing, and verifying proposed additions or inaccuracies on Zootierliste. The purpose of this thread is to make it easier for contributors and editors alike to track new submissions, provide accurate information, and ensure entries from ZooChat reports are supported by reliable sources. Contributors are invited to submit information on species, subspecies, or other relevant details not yet included in the database, which may include newly established captive populations, corrections or clarifications to existing entries, or any data confirmed to be held in zoological collections. By centralising contributions in this thread, Zootierliste shall hopefully remain a comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date resource for all users. Please make sure all submissions are supported by trustworthy references or verifiable evidence.

Preferable Layout:

Species / Subspecies
  • Common Name (if applicable, as used on Zootierliste. Also please mention if an individual is of species or subspecies status) followed by current Scientific Name (as used on Zootierliste).
Proposed Update
  • A short, precise description of what you propose should be added or changed in Zootierliste.
  • Examples: new species held in a collection, correction of a previously listed taxon, recent captive population updates, etc.
Source / Verification
  • Reference to ZooChat post, institutional record, or other reliable reference.
Date / Location (optional but helpful)
  • When and where the observation or record was confirmed.
Additional Details / Notes (optional)
  • Any other context relevant or noteworthy to the proposed update.
  • Examples: known captive history, taxonomic clarification, population size, breeding notes, etc.

Example Layout:
  • Species: Spix’s Macaw (Cyanopsitta spixii)
  • Proposed Update: The addition of information to ‘Former Holdings’ of Spix’s Macaw at ZSL London Zoo. The first individual held was a wild-caught adult female captured from ‘Northern Brazil’, held between 15/11/1878 (having been purchased from the Jardin d’Acclimation in Paris) to 22/01/1884 (after the bird’s death).
  • Verification: Skin of individual with original tags on display in NHM London during ‘Birds: Brilliant and Bizarre’ exhibition. Link to record of specimen: https://data.nhm.ac.uk/dataset/56e7...55-c38a-40c9-b657-4ccb55ab2feb/record/3924010. Also information from extract of ‘The List of Animals in the London Zoo’, compiled and published in 1883.
  • Date / Location (optional): Not necessary in this situation, as this is a former holding.
  • Additional Details (optional): This was the first publicly exhibited individual in Europe.
