Female (I think) tapir was back on display in the paddock on a hot and humid afternoon today, noted was being very vocal with high pitched squeeks - almost like a bird or a primate. Didn't see if tapirs are included on the most recent map.
The tapir paddock has never been closed to the public, only the house.
£100,000 with no extension, that sucks. How hard would it have been to have drained the moat and fenced the front?
Of course, I was thinking the same thing- but you said it...
This enclosure could be hugely improved by draining the moat, landscaping the whole enclosure to look like Indian dry forest(as they did with the Sloth Bears) and putting in some big glass windows-as at Whipsnade's Lion enclosure.
Spending £100,000 without achieving any of that seems a great waste of their funds.
That said, Bear Mountain cost £160,000
