Do they still have the 5 or have any moved on.
Also do you know where any are going to be sent, I believe lucifer is going to Paignton but how about the 4 females
 
Sadly there are only 4 now.

Currently Lucifer is sharing the larger enclosure with his eldest daughter Rubi from the first litter,
Heidi and Indi from the second litter are in a smaller enclosure.
 
Tennisfan, you clearly have information that we don't. How did you find out and what do you know?

IF what you're implying is true than it is very sad news, though I believe Abi was quite old (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The good thing is her genes are well represented with the cubs.

ZSL don't seem to have a very good recent track record when it comes to announcing the death of their more charismatic animals. A prime example of this was when Whipsnade's bull sealion Berkely, a resident of 20+ years, died a few years ago-NOTHING was said and people STILL ask where he is! PR-wise, I find this quite embarrasing and unprofessional. At the end of the day it's life, and the zoo would be far better off if it announced such events early in order to prevent rumour and gossip spreading.

And yet when 'Yeboah' the Gorilla died, it wasn't only announced (they couldn't really avoid doing so as it was too obvious) but it was featured very graphically on the ITV series on the Zoo. I was really quite surprised at that- obviously an attempt to show the 'warts and all' side of Zoo husbandry.

I think what happens is that in Zoos generally, deaths are kept quiet if they think they can get away with it, and particularly if there have been several in a short time- which immediately leads to adverse press interest of the 'why are so many animals dying at the Zoo? sort. And in the case of an animal, e.g. the Sealion you mention, if the death isn't mentioned at the time, that brings its own trap as it becomes harder to admit it later on and then face accusations of 'why weren't we told at the time?'. So they just keep quiet and say nothing.
 
Frankly, the gorilla deaths went OTT; wreaths and a book of condolences?

I think 'Abi' was about 14 - a good age for a Lion, wild or captive. I think that an announcement ought to be made about any high profile mammalian death; people do notice individuals and get fond of them, in a way that realistically doesn't happen with fish, reptiles, birds or smaller mammals.

Have to agree IMO it is humanising them to an unnecessary degree. They may be among our closest relatives but they are still animals, not people.

I'm surprised they haven't announced the Lioness death- its nothing to be ashamed of at that age, but again, maybe they think its one they can get away with, without making it public.
 
Baby Sloth born yesterday, one of the volunteers showed me photos of it.

Lions still separated, with a sign saying "Temporarliy Moved - our lions are temporarily in separate enclosures for animal care reasons..." By the smaller enclosure, and all 4 of them still looking very sad.

I didn't see it in the rainforest section, but I wasn't looking for it to be honest, didn't know it was there at the time, I only saw one adult sloth in the main section though.

Ahhh okay, thank you! I might have to organise a London Zoo trip although it's quite a trip for me as i live right up North haha!

Newquay Lioness Connie is rising eighteen and appears very fit.
 
I believe there are a couple of ring tail lemur babies born April ? ,, think they are in the off show area behind tiger territory.... and quite a few baby penguins.
 
There has been a solitary sloth in one of the glass 'tanks' at the back of the Clore rainforest for a couple of weeks at least, perhaps the (previously!) pregnant female and now baby?
 
As far as I know all London's ring tailed lemurs are male so not sure how that happened! Do you have any more clues?? Perhaps they quietly imported some already-pregnant females (like they did with the llamas).
 
No, Oflory, that's the old sloth Prince, he was put there when the new male arrived as they didn't get on and Prince is happier with a bit of peace and quiet. Marilyn has always been in the main area.

The father is one of Whipsnade's boys-he's been busy with the new Whipsnade girls too (6 babies so far!)
