As far as I know the Pope Cardinals that were in the Rain Forest are dead although I think there is a Pope Cardinal in Blackburn Pavilion
Just saw this article about the refurbishment of the Snowden Aviary. As well as colobus monkeys, red duiker and African grey parrots, the article also mentions 'waterfowl' (exact species are not mentioned) as part of the plans for the exhibit.

I'm excited about this, and I hope it will come to fruition. For years I've imagined housing monkeys could be a great use for Snowdon, which obviously is limited in its scope for modernisation as primates would be able to utilise the three-dimensional space.

It is irritating that the red duiker are descried as “miniature deers” but it is an interesting article nevertheless.
It should also be noted that, although the article states the Snowdon Aviary dates from 1962, the aviary was not opened until 1965.
anyone know if they have had any new bird species this year as visiting in a couple of weeks time.

On a side note would you rather I take photographs of enclosure/exhibits and put thenm on the gallery rather than species as most people take photographs of the species and not the enclosures/exhibits.

Announced on Facebook, the Hanuman Langurs have had their first offspring
Spotted it the other day whilst in the zoo but kept it quiet just in case; good to hear it's official!!
Visited yesterday and had what I must say was the best visit to any collection within England the staff were great very informative (with future info) they actually showed disabled people respect (more than can be said for some collections).
Managed to see All the bird species in the Blackburn Pavilion a first for me and did notice 2 species that were not labelled.
Saw the Blue-faced Parrotfinches beautiful little birds will be a great addition to the collection also some young birds around in the main walk through.
Now I missed the Inland Taipan this was the only species not seen in the Reptile House which I still think is a great place to visit.
Didn't walk around the lions just did the Hanuman Langurs all were very active as a long rumble of thunder echoed around the zoo.
Many more plus points for the collection the only downside was the usual (in UK collection's these days) was the overgrown/lack of space for bird species to do what come natural to them and that is fly, why do collections put bird species in aviaries and then just leave them by this I mean not cut back shrubs of trees as they would for other species.
Where has the Ruppell's Vultures gone and noticed the Turkey vulture was missing also.
Had a great day will be returning again shortly with second group of great Disabled people.

Interested if you could expand on this point. Are you saying other collections actually show disrespect or is it more that you feel other places don't pay enough attention?
I believe he is stating the former, and referring to his past statements that - in his opinion - Chester Zoo has an active policy of staff ignoring anyone in wheelchairs. and that Islands has turned the zoo into a "no go place for disabled people":

Maybe the first statement answers the question, as the Ruppell's Vultures have been opposite the outside lion enclosure since Land of the Lions opened, as part of the 'theming'

Turkey vulture has been gone for years.
Yes griffon vultures are now in the aviary next to the Lubetkin pool.

I can confirm that they do have at least one pope cardinal in the Blackburn Pavilion
It's also the very first time that I have been able to get identification of ALL my photographs of Butterfly some where again not labelled but managed to get them identified from another site.
I will add a list of them when I transfer them to this laptop
Also noticed they had cleared some of the shrubs from a few of the aviaries on the south bank which made viewing a great deal better and a notice on the others claiming they were going to refurbish them and replace the birds.
I would love to see one big aviary with a mixture of species in this area instead of small owl aviaries which I think are way to small height wise especially.
I would also like to see a mixture of Lemurs in the Lemur walk through instead of the (everybody's got RTL getting as bad as the Simples) why not Black & White ruffed or White faced brown lemur's or even Black Lemurs.
On another note as leaving saw Ring Necked, Parakeets and a few Ravens these were to be added to the earlier species which were - Starling, House sparrow, Song thrush, Chaffinch, Blue tit, Carrion crow, Goldfinch, Long tailed tit, Blackcap, Coot, Herring gull, Pochard, Mallard, Moorhen, Swallow, Canada goose, Greylag goose, Egyptian goose, Hybrid goose, Magpie, Treecreeper, Blackbird, Robin, Jay, Lesser black backed gull, Black headed gull, Dunnock, Mute swan, Wren & Chiffchaff not too bad for a walk in the park but unfortunately no lifers

The simple reason being the ring-tailed bachelors won't welcome any new species! They have tried believe me, when the enclosure initially opened they had a male B&W ruffed in with them, and he ended up being sent away (I don't know where) because the ring-taileds kept coming after him.
