I remember grey-winged trumpeters, Montserrat oriole and sunbitterns in the enclosure
Saw a sunbittern in the Blackburn pavilion last Friday (13 Dec)I didn't see any Sunbittern last time I was in Blackburn pavilion
what is happening to the 9th hog?
Nothing, all nine are coming to London
The last remaining Tapir has been euthanased for health reasons, ending those in the collection.
leaves the Casson outside enclosures mostly empty
So sad to hear about the passing of London Zoo’s last tapir
This also makes me wonder what the future of the Casson building will be now that it is mostly empty. Although it’s quite unrealistic, I wish that both it and the Mappins could be demolished to make way for new exhibits since, in my opinion, they are both unfit for purpose now and just take up too much of London Zoo’s limited space.
Both are listed buildings so won't be demolished any time soon
Just because a building is listed doesn’t mean it cannot be demolished, especially if it is becoming dilapidated and unfit for purpose like the Mappins are, as long as a good case is made by ZSL. Although it is unlikely to happen, it is still possible and I think it is needed in order to help spur on meaningful development at the zoo.
Thank God they didn’t go through with it!how they had insisted on London putting penguins back in the old penguin pool
