ZSL London Zoo ZSL London Zoo News 2021

I don't know but every year for many years now this seems to be touted as 'news' by the press- the annual Zoo stocktake- mainly London Zoo, and usually accompanied by a photo or two of a keeper counting the penguins or somesuch. It is the most tired piece of news ever...:(

Yes, haha, I agree, it does seem to be old hat in terms of news but I do wish they would post updated inventories of their stock list.

It's called a PR department doing a good job. It's low hanging fruit, an easy win for them to get extensive coverage on multiple platforms.

I presume everyone on here wants zoos to actually get good publicity and for the public to actually go to the zoos so they don't, you know, close down.

Sorry if my tone is grumpy but I find it incredibly irritating to read so many negative views on this every year. If you don't care about such stories and coverage then ignore it. You aren't the target audience anyway.

The updated animal inventory was circulated to Fellows of the Zoological Society shortly before the AGM. However the ZSL website has not yet been updated to reflect the latest verson; the inventory currently available on-line gives the stock list as at 1st January 2019.

I've looked through the 2019 inventory a couple of times but it would be really interesting to see what has changed in 2020.

I must admit that I'm mainly keen to know whether the old potto pair at the Clore are still going strong.

And surely any positive zoo news, regardless of how fluffy or banal it may be, is welcome right now considering the godawfulness we’re all currently living through?

An update form London Zoo

It is with a very heavy heart that we must close both London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo, with effect from Tuesday 5 January 2021, following the UK Government’s announcement of a national lockdown.

As with previous closures, the well-being of our animals and staff is our primary concern and we have well practiced procedures in place.
