Other observations from yesterday.
Gaysha Sumatran tigeress was in the long paddock although given the cold was predominately in the heated rock area at the entrance.
Azim (male) was in the pool paddock.
squirrel Monkey walkthru was open
Some shuffling/changes to the birds occupying the aviaries on the outside of the Blackburn Pavilion.
not sure whether the former reindeer enclosure is being used for offshow animals or simply being prepared.
took me a while to notice what was different but the carousel in Barclay Court has been repositioned closer to the Animal Demonstration Tent and Membership kiosk.

Think the former reindeer paddock is being used to house the recently obtained 3 young male alpacas.
Just a correction on the surface. It is a sandy limestone mix. The enclosure is looking a little empty, I can see the Zoo needing to make it look "more green" just to meet expectations of visitors in terms of how they see giraffe in the wild, even if the new substrate is better for them. The same work is happening on the Zebra enclosure, however they will still be separate.
Losing the moat means the giraffes can have 24/7 outdoor access, which before wasn't possible (as they where closed in at night).
Certainly not the most visually appealing enclosure but I'm sure the giraffes are going to be very pleased with it and that is of course the zoos priority as it should be.
I suppose that it is still under construction and London are a zoo that deliver especially high quality enclosures for their animals. This and the future reptile house are pushing me in the direction of planning another visit. I'm wondering what the other half of the enclosure is like if you could let me know
On 13th May ZSL will be holding an online event detailing future plans for both ZSL sites.
Do you know how people will be able to view this?
Let's hope the plans are for new animals and new enclosures, not playgrounds, crazy golf, dinosaurs and lego!!
The Membership kiosk is now located inside the Zoo Shop. As you enter shop, turn right and that’s where Membership enquiries are being handled

Yes, apologies I should’ve elaborated but the memo was brief!
Having said that, I fear we’ve been here before with these type of ZSL “meetings,” so I’m not expecting much.
Or a reasonable explanation as to why at Whipsnade they’ve moved a settled breeding group of oryx out of one paddock into another, and replaced them with a solitary, zebra-obsessed ostrich!
Zoos move animals around all the time, absolutely nothing wrong with moving the oryx group
I'll be going to ZSL London Zoo on the 6th May anyway so I'll see her then
