What was a Golden Headed Lion Tamarin doing being with Chimps ?
possibly satisfying its curiosity? I’ve known free ranging Pygmy Marmosets do that with Cusimanses and Capuchins respectively. Neither of them made it back home….

This were the free range. They lived in house by otters before the silver marmoset did
Hang on, you're saying that the Tamarins were housed with Chimpanzees, when was this ? I thought that Whipsnade had more sense than to house any small primates with Chimpanzees.or were they housed near the Chimpanzees enclosure. Either way, I think it was stupid to house free range primates near the Chimpanzees.

It’s a fair distance between where they were housed and the chimps so they would have had to range a reasonable way - there are trees but it would still have meant some ground travel and the chimps have a moat so the primate would also have to scale the fence and go along the side of it to get in with the chimps. And then get caught and eaten. Not a small effort and not ‘nearby’ really. I’d doubt anyone would have thought they would be coincident, but then having them effectively free ranging at all was probably quite a risk and wouldn’t be done these days. I’m quite surprised they found their way there anyway and I wouldn’t mind seeing a source that the chimps ate one as it’s an interesting anecdote.

Just to clarify, no tamarins or marmosets were housed with chimpanzees. That didn’t happen.

I wouldn’t even say it was that close to the chimps either, I had no idea they went that far from the

No I'm not saying they were housed with chimps you haven't bothered to read my writing. I said they live in house near otters

Is there a link to an article etc about the incident? In 2015 a tamarin was eaten by otters at Bristol which was reported in the media so I assume there’s something similar available here showing Oscar eating or having eaten the tamarin.

This was about 1998. Don't think there was any publicity put out. No mobile phone videos or anything in those days so no need to cover their backside
