SeaWorld's 2017 announcements. SeaWorld San Antonio will be getting Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster, the first of its kind in North America. It will be focused on SeaWorld's quite admirable rescue program. Though claimed to be the first of its kind, from what they've released so far, the main difference will be the style of car used. Otherwise it's just a normal launched coaster, and if I had to guess I'd say the manufacturer is Mack.

Also, the beluga calf is still doing fine.

Do we have a due date for Takara yet? I could have sworn I'd read February somewhere, but I can't be certain.

I find that whole discourse bent on banning ceteceans from captivity primal fear obsolete.
If it where not for facilities like Seaworld or dolphinaria we would not care at all about marine mammals, nor have any concept of good husbandry and captive housing, conservation-breeding and management of marine mammals and ceteceans in particular.

Without this knowledge how are we going to save marine mammals and act upon strandings and recovery and rehabilitation of stranded and injured ceteceans. Which is bound to happen more and more with increased levels of anthropo-centric habitat conversion and destruction, particularly also where this pertains to marine and oceanic habitat.

No amount of Blackfish filtered agit prop or disinformation can cover the above reality up and lest we ban these that we will ultimately fail to protect and conserve our marine wildlife (which thanks to the efforts of dolphinaria like Seaworld and a whole lotta other marine mammal and wildife rehabilatition facilities worldwide is absolutely on the wildlife conservationists' agenda)!

These AR groups only see their agenda which is that no animals should be kept in human care regardless of the reason with PETA being one of the worse, they also believe even the humble cat and dog have no place living with humans. What ever facts you can put up in regards to animals being saved from extinction by captive breeding or any other reason carries no weight with them!

And that my friend makes them fundamentalist extremists for which we should have no ear nor a public platform. It stops and starts with continuous engagement of the lame lazy media on the subject if ex situ conservation activities and action v.s. the non argument "animal welfare" idiocy of the converted fundamentalist extremists is to succeed and prevail.

If one does not do so the latter will ring out loud without any convincing, substantive and corroborated and relevant counter-arguments by conservation circles to the exact contrary to what these extremists view to be truth (for it is not fact with which they come out, but a wished for reality that does not exist in reality)

Ye only reap what ye do not oppose. It is not just a given, but within a democracy a must to counteract the extremist view that something like marine mammals is captivity is not their's nor their B/W. If unopposed it is what we deserve to get by not standing firm against lies, twisted truths, alternative realities and other ******** expunged by these idiots.
AMEN!

This was at the park in San Antonio, Texas, not Orlando. Orlando hasn't had a calf born at the park since 2010 (Makaio). The breeding ban doesn't really affect Orlando as Tilikum wasn't being held near females after the Dawn Brancheau incident, and Trua is related to all of the females except Kayla.

You really don't stop to read over things, do you? The website specifically states it was at the San Antonio park, however Seaworld's "base of operation" is the Orlando Park, and Seaworld is therefore based out of Orlando.

In addition, the breeding ban still very much applies to Orlando. Trua can breed with any of the cows naturally, regardless of relation. So they really need to make sure they keep up on their birth control. Tilikum was also regularly housed with Katina and Malia from early-mid 2016 up until his death in early 2017.

Us SeaWorld fans were actually delighted to hear this. It's wishful thinking but we're hoping for any opportunity to get SeaWorld to back to being SeaWorld.

This exactly. Many were concerned at Joel Manby's attitude, in that he seemed to be about rides first and foremost, rather than improving existing exhibits and creating new ones. Hopefully whoever comes next has a focus on animals.
