I saw the Takin yesterday. Maybe they were shut in while the paddock was being cleaned?

The Loris are in Monkey Heights with the Tree Shrews, between the Goeldis and Mangabeys. They are usually curled up fast asleep on branches at the top of the enclosure.The Tenrecs haven't been on show for quite some time - I don't know where they are or if they're still here. I've assumed that the Nocturnal House is being 'decommissioned' in readiness for building the new Savannah.
 
The tailless tenrecs died, don't know if they still have lesser hedgehog tenrecs.

Has a date been announced yet for ground-breaking and / or any plans and applications been presented to Council?

I got to the Takins around 3pm so maybe they were locked away early. Shame I missed the Loris,I don't recall them being labelled in that exhibit.

Just got back from P Zoo. Wow, there is a lot of maintenance around the site outstanding, as discussed (Gigit), but now there is a gaping hole in the boardwalk of monkey heights, a fallen tree on the Adjudent Stork aviary near the owls, a closed pathway by the Lechwe and more empty enclosures!! Not good!

And now someone has been let loose with a strimmer on the gorilla island, making it harder for them to hide when they do venture out. There was some work going on in the very big hole in the Monkey Heights boardwalk today, and evidence of sporadic work being done in the Colobus den - tools and ladders come and go.
 
Recent hatchings; two Southern crested screamers doing well, two toco toucans being hand-reared, as already mentioned, 1 superb spreo starling and a Duyvenboides (or brown) lory being hand-reared. 1 South American grey gull (larus modestus) parent-hatched recently, chick well grown and takes colony total up to 12 birds now.

For the record, I only saw one Mishmi takin last sunday.
The echidna was, surprisingly, very active.

Those Grey Gulls are lovely. Bruce the Echidna is usually active in afternoons, in my experience.
 
Thanks for the link, going to try and catch this! Looking at the link though. ..Neil the lion? Has something happened to Lucifer? Or is Lucifer not considered a suitable name for kids tv? :rolleyes:

Almost certainly 'renamed' after long-standing curator Neil Bemment, you would think.
 
Parrot aviaries - I was pleased to see some work going on yesterday in the two aviaries that were left unfinished some time ago.

Also, staff were busy working on the Monkey Heights Hole and the Adjutant Stork aviary. However, the Cottage Aviary looks in need of attention now too - photo in the gallery.
 
Can anyone confirm how many Caucasian tur are left (4 ?) and Barbary sheep ( 1 ?).

I haven't spotted the lone Barbary Sheep for a couple of weeks but a keeper said he hadn't heard that she'd died so must just be hidden. I saw 4 Tur on Wednesday but, if I remember correctly, saw the normal full quota of 6 on Monday. It is so easy for them to disappear, especially now with all the trees in leaf.
