It is indeed. Apparently Saturday was the first day they were allowed in and we saw Pixel enjoying a swim on Sunday when we visited. He certainly seemed happy and chilled and was rather taken with the reeds along the edge - no doubt something he can demolish like the trees in the first enclosure.....hahaI see on facebook that the 3rd Polar Bear enclosure is now open
Is there a possibility that Project Polar will be used for breeding Polar bears in the future or will it remain as a holding facility for retired males/young males?
How many made bears could they hold at one time? Has there been a successful breeding of Polar bears in the U.K. in recent memory? When I have spoke to keepers both possibilities are being left open, however the one I spoke to seemed really keen to stay as male only as it will allow them to hold a lot more bears at any one time.
Last Polar Bear breeding would have been Mercedes' 2nd cub at Edinburgh well over 20 years agoHow many made bears could they hold at one time? Has there been a successful breeding of Polar bears in the U.K. in recent memory?

I saw 2 Visayan Warty Pigs today; am guessing one male one female in separate sections. The smaller one, which I guess is female, was in the larger section and together they take up all of the Red River Hogs area; I was told by someone a few weeks ago that they'd gone, but I don't know where.Where did they come from? How many are there? And where will they be put in the park?
A photographer has captured an intimate portrait of two male lions who appeared to be attempting to mate at a wildlife park in Doncaster.
The photographs were taken moments after one of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park’s adult males pinned down another in an apparent bid to mate with him, while a lioness was lying nearby.
The spectacular display was witnessed by amateur wildlife photographer Russ Bridges who took photographs of the act as it progressed.
'It's all play between friends,' suggested photographer Russ Bridges
Mr Bridges, from Rotherham in South Yorkshire, said: “There are two males and a female in that pride. One of the lions suddenly got up, walked over and jumped on his friend's back.
“A fair few people were watching this going on and laughing - they were all commenting on what it looked like.
“I think it was a bit of a 'should have gone to Specsavers' moment as the lioness was just lying there next to them.
“In fairness though, every time a male went near her she snarled and swiped their faces with her paw.
“It's not really unusual for them to act that way sometimes. I don't know if it's a dominance thing or something like that - it looks as if they are aggressive, but it's all play between friends.”
'It's like he's showing his pride in what he's doing,' said photographer Russ Bridges
Mr Bridges, 42, said he'd photographed lions at the wildlife park before but it was the first time he'd seen them engaging in this particular kind of behaviour.
He said: “Usually they lay asleep doing nothing when I go to photograph them, but this time they were up and about.
“My favourite shot is the one where he appears to be sticking his tongue out.
“I've never seen a shot of two males on top of one another with one sticking his tongue out before - it's like he's showing some pride in what he's doing.”
I wouldn't mind betting all this will cost less than a zoo in Hampshire's new tropical house!According to a new plan added to the council website the species planned for the expansion are:
Gorilla
Hippo
Dhole
Sun bears
Gibbons
Komodo dragon
Crocodile
Sea lions
Penguins
Fruit bats
This would be their £50 million expansion?I wouldn't mind betting all this will cost less than a zoo in Hampshire's new tropical house!
Would management there please wake up!!
Yorkshire Wildlife Park is a zoo on the up!!
Picking a fight again? I'll bet this isn't all they add! I'll certainly bet they can add half those for less than £7.8m! Sealions & Penguins will cost more, but the first 5 easily! This would be their £50 million expansion?
