Pgymy marmosets have been added to the zoos website.
It's as though whoever updates/creates the map has never been into the actual zoo, and whenever an animal is featured on Secret Life they hastily add it to the map. "We've got what?! Where are they!?" No surprise then that they're in the wrong place.

Why do they feel like they can't add every animal to the website and map? Surely that would make people wan't to come and see the variety of animals more!!

Why is Bernie the Andean Bear still in SOTJ When secret life of the zoo suggested he would be reintroduced when the cub was 10 months

Is anyone going to the members meeting on Wednesday? I and I presume others would like to know what will be talked about. I am hoping for lot's of good news hopefully about gorillas and hippos fingers crossed.

I am excited to see what will happen to the Savanna side of SOTJ. Maybe a second pair of jaguars will move in but I think that is quite unlikely to happen.

Was there yesterday and asked this question and was told that the cub had been trying to get into the other paddock of the exhibit, so they saw it safer to keep Bernie in the SOTJ enclosure. He will be reintroduced to the split paddock in the new year and hopefully all 3 will be together by the spring.

Asked this question to. Was told that they are waiting to hear from the stud book manager regarding breeding and that the contraceptive the male has been administered in previous years hasn't been administered yet as they are awaiting a breeding decision. Chester hope to breed the current pair, but they are awaiting a decision. If it gets the go ahead, the other exhibit would be used for the female and young once born as pregnancy is only around 3-4 months with a Jaguar.

Okay so yesterday I took a trip to Chester Zoo.

A few changes since last been there, not sure if mentioned previously on here so will add what I saw and found out.

Where the Cheetah was opposite the Bush Dog's and for a small period of time the Pudu, there are now Indian Muntjac. They have had netting up so you couldn't see recently, but this is now being removed and they are now on show.

The Pudu is now in the old Giant Anteater exhibit, sharing with the Agouti, next to the Pademelon. The Cheetah enclosures next to these are now empty.

The old Tiger / Sun Bear exhibit is being destroyed and will form part of the Fossa exhibit.

Capybara's have a cute little baby but he was getting bullied poor thing!

Bernie the Andean Bear is in SOFJ and will head back to the Andean Bear enclosure in January and will be reunited with Mother and baby in Feb/March.

The Zoo has two Onager currently in Quarantine by the Parrot and Plant section. You can see in the sand paddock where the pair are, but there is high grass / bamboo to ideally stop people looking in. These are due to leave the collection soon.

Quick question to anyone who would know, but how many Okapi do Chester have? I only saw 2, but thought there was more than that, so I presume only one of the paddocks has access to the inside section you can view from the back of the Giraffe house?

Over on Islands, there are no plans to add a male Tiger, as Chester is not currently part of the breeding program for Sumatran Tigers. Something to do with the bloodline of the two females they have have enough in captivity at present.

The two baby Orangutans were very playful with each other.

There is a new exhibit currently being built to house Tree Kangaroo's. This is opposite where the Cassowary is. I have put some photo's below of the area and current state of exhibit.

Here are some of my photo's from my visit yesterday.

Finally I saw the Malayan Tapir's who for once weren't sleeping behind the great big wall in their inside section. Never seen them out !

Plus my favourite of the day, the baby Capybara :) So cute !!!!

'The Zoo has two new Onager'. Anyone know where from as they already have Whipsnade's last female and afaik there are no others in UK. So from somewhere in Europe?

I just came back from the zoo after a short trip and I wish I looked for the muntjacs! I was too preiccupied with seeing the pademelons for the first time! Also Elephants of the Asian Forest is now called Elephants of the Asian Rainforest which just sounds worse.
