I just came back from the zoo after a short trip and I wish I looked for the muntjacs! I was too preiccupied with seeing the pademelons for the first time! Also Elephants of the Asian Forest is now called Elephants of the Asian Rainforest which just sounds worse.
Pretty sure that re name has been in place for a little while. But I agree it sounds bad.

After also having been at the zoo today (together with MagpieGoose, an unexpected surprise!), we saw Emma with a brand new baby Sumatran orang.
I wish I went over to Islands today!! However I did notice the lar gibbons babysitting a young orang while mum was sleeping in ROTRA.

Other notes from my visit today with SJ13;
-Mangrove Snake are now in the old Water Dragon enclosure in RORA.
-The White-creasted Turacos appeared to have a chick which explains them being seperate from the Peafowl and Robin-chat.
-The end owl aviary has Northern Hawk Owl in again after being removed in the past.
-The baby Sumatran Orang seems very healthy, Emma is doing a good job as always. Tripa seems to be alot more independent now, playing with Siska and Tuti rather than being glued to Emma like he had been in the past.

Interestingly, the chick was present on Tuesday when I visited Chester - but at that point in time the Peafowl and Robin-chat were still present within the aviary. The chick was capable of faltering flight - more like wing-assisted jumping to higher perches - so I suspect it is a few weeks old.

About the muntjac, I'm guessing the enclosure is temporary and that it will move out of that area.
Looking at it's geographic range I have some ideas.
-Islands
-Spotted deer enclosure after they move to Islands
-Asian Plains
-Former anoa island
-mixed exhibit with the short-clawed otters

My mistake- the Turaco were with the Peafowl and Robin-chat, just over my past few visits the Turacos were kept seperate in a smaller aviary which I assume was due to the hatching of the chick :)

Quick question to anyone who would know, but how many Okapi do Chester have? I only saw 2, but thought there was more than that, so I presume only one of the paddocks has access to the inside section you can view from the back of the Giraffe house?

There are two Okapi exhibits: 'Secret World of the Okapi' (i.e. the old camel house and paddocks), and a second exhibit at the rear of the giraffe house, the outdoor paddock of which can be viewed from across the canal.

You got one out of four, but they will not move there at first. Sorry I cannot be more specific.

One out of four? Are you saying that there will be four exhibits for them? Either way I hope it is Asian Plains.

Wow 4 threads in 1 year! Back on the talk of muntjac though, does anyone know the subspecies.

You got one area right out of four guesses. However as said ealier, the exhibit you guessed right is not where thewy will move to at first, but the plan is to move some when they have enough.

They are no subspecies status.
