On the idea of bringing back the Northern White Rhino:
Before money gets spent on trying to bring back a subspecies, organizations should spend those funds on the Javan & Sumatran rhinos, the two species that need it most. When those "species" are hopefully back at healthy sustainable levels, then we could try to bring back the Northern White Rhino. We need to make sure a full species is alive before we try to recreate a "subspecies". Besides, 90% or more of people don't know the differences between the Northern & Southern White Rhino subspecies. It's a nice idea, but lets make sure we get ALL rhinos at sustainable levels before we go into full Jurassic Park mode.

now that is interesting; i'm presuming individuals that were translocated there? has this analysis been published yet?
I had heard that there still might be a few in the wild! After all, the species is only possibly extinct in the wild.
Yes. If I recall correctly, they were suggested to be a remnant tip of the original range, rather than translocations.
