ZSL Whipsnade Zoo Whipsnade Zoo 2018

Does the zoo hold a male waterbuck? If not what happened to any male in their care, I’ve only seen females for a while.

Naya has come from Parc De Felins in France. Originally born there in June 2010, and has been their most recent breeding female until now - one of her male offspring went to Zurich a few weeks ago
 
Great to see such active young brown bears at Whipsnade. Has always been my fav enclosure and great to see that ZSL have valued the area and kept it as originally created. Yesterday the bears were exploring whole enclosure, using enrichment provided, climbing up trees, standing fully up and then jumping from standing to reach new buds on branches. On other side the wolverine were both active so added greatly to area.
With the addition of the rock hopper penguin last year, this has become a great area of the park.
 
Were the tigers in together or still being kept apart ?
I too love the new bears, so active and fun to watch :)

The tigers were in together earlier in the week ,but were keeping away from each other when I saw them.
 
Thanks, when |I was there a couple of weeks ago, he was shut in the caged bit near the car park.
Got a few spare days next week might take a drive up
 
Having recently looked at the zoo's animal inventory, it seems that Greater one-horned rhino cow Behan is missing. I was wondering if anyone had any information?
 
The gemsbok are now in the white rhino paddock. Couldn't see the roan which normally live there though.....

also did anybody ever find out what happened to the Asian lions which were supposed to go to London?
 
I’d also like to know about the asiatic lions that were at whipsnde.its gone cold really hasn’t it

Probably a silly question but how do you go about moving a herd of antelope? With larger animals I know you train them to get used to a crate, so Is that the same for antelope? Or is it a quicker process due to antelope being more likely to be moved around?
 
crate training antelope is a pain because most are pretty dumb and because most don't like going into confined spaces. if you're smart you just set up a race from boards or even material like tarpaulin or such, and run them straight into a trailer.

On my last visit there were'nt that many Roan left (3/4?) and there had'nt been a calf for many years.

Intriguing as to what will take the place of the gemsbok. The paddock was designed for Black rhino, though I can't see them returning unfortunately. Probably end up housing more Ostrich!

On my last few visits the Gaur have been in the former Black Rhino paddock and the Gemsbok in the adjoining paddock. So I assume (hope!) the Gaur are still in that paddock
