ZooChat Challenge (Global) 2018

Zagreb Zoo, 11/04/2018:
30) Serval, Leptailurus serval
31) Eurasian lynx, Lynx lynx

I could not find any exhibits for grey seal, Asian palm civet, fennec fox, jaguar, maned wolf (and snow leopard and cheetah, though I already had those), yet am relatively certain I visited the entire zoo. Either zootierliste is very outdated, or I'm blind. :P

I guess the former, if you were blind you wouldn't have seen a Serval :p. So please update the zootierliste ;)

Finally finished going through all my notes for carnivores. I didn't get every species I could have but that's how these things go and certainly not going to complain about my total! Went today to Faunapark Flakkee - the Netherlands, a very small but also very nice park with a nice collection. 11 carnivore-species for such a small park is not bad and some of them are really rare ones in captivity ( esp. the Jungle cat - only one in the Netherlands - and Cape genet - also only one(s? ) in the Netherlands ).
14 ) Tayra - Eira barbara ( see Tayra's | ZooChat )
15 ) Corsac fox - Vulpes corsac ( see Corsac fox | ZooChat )
16 ) Yellow mongoose - Cynictis penicillata ( see Yellow mongoose | ZooChat )
17 ) Raccoon dog - Nyctereutes procyonoides ( see Raccoon dog | ZooChat )
18 ) Ring-tailed coati - Nasua nasua ( see Ring-tailed coati | ZooChat )
19 ) Cape genet - Genetta tigrina ( see Cape genet | ZooChat )
20 Jungle cat - Felix chaus ( see Jungle cat .... sleeping :( | ZooChat

The other species kept at the park ( Skunk, Meerkat and Serval ) I had already seen earlier this year at other collections and one I think doesn't count because its some kind of domestic ( silver fox ).

Last weekend Safaripark Beekse Bergen gave me the change to make my carnivore-list for this year a little longer :) :

21 ) Lion - Panthera leo ( see Lion | ZooChat )
22 ) Tiger ( Amur ) - Panthera tigris ( see Amur tiger | ZooChat )
23 ) Leopard - Panthera pardus ( see Leopard | ZooChat )
24 ) Spotted hyena - Crocuta crocuta ( see Spotted hyena | ZooChat )
25 ) African wild dog - Lycaon pictus ( see African wild dogs | ZooChat )
26 ) Zebra mongoose - Mungos mungo ( see Zebra mongoose | ZooChat )
27 ) Asian small-clawed otter - Amblonyx cinerea ( see Asian small-clawed otters | ZooChat )
28 ) Sloth bear - Melursus thibetanus ( see Sloth bear | ZooChat )

Intresting was to discover that a third carnivore species was placed in the Sloth bear - Corsac fox-enclosure. The original enclosure for the Asian small-clawed otters is completly gone and the animals ( I counted 4 this weekend ) are now together with the Sloth bears and Corsac foxes .
Another new thing for me was that the Californian sea-lions are now on the big lake and during the boat-safari one was jumping around the boa

Ragunan Zoo, Thursday February 22nd

36) American black bear, Ursus americanus

37) Small asian mongoose, Herpestes javanicus
38) Small indian civet, Viverricula indica

Shanghai Zoo, Sunday April 15

39) Northern Fur Seal, Callorhinus ursinus

40) Caracal, Caracal caracal
41) Serval, Leptailurus serval
42) Mainland Leopard Cat, Prionailurus bengalensis

Shanghai actually has a very good collection of 'large' carnivores, but at this point I've got most of them. There's a smattering of small carnivores, but thankfully the fairly abysmal 'Pets World' is now closed for renovation so the unfortunate critters that used to inhabit it are now elsewhere.

I'm not familiar with "Pets World" or what was kept there but just from the name and knowing that Chinese zoos generally have a lower standard of animal care, I'm glad it's closed..

But have you seen them all this year? Anything seen outside of 2018 does not count in this challenge.
