"Stoop so low" means you did something bad and Homo luzonensis was short so short = low, I was making a bad joke.

@Hipporex very interesting thread en great that you keep up with all new described paleofauna so neatly.

Your post on the first neotropical protocetid is interesting to me, as I'm studying (not professionaly though) the forming of the Panamanian isthmus and it's influence on biogeography for quite a years now, so it's nice to know protocetids were able to migrate to the eastern Pacific through the archipelago of southern Central America.

Meganthropus, long considered a junior synonym of Homo erectus, turns out to be its own valid ape genus. Meganthropus palaeojavanicus lived 1 million years ago in Indonesia.

Not a new species but intersting nonetheless: Scientists have discovered "exquisitely preserved" dinosaur footprints in South Korea. The footprints were made 120 million years ago by the ichnogenus Minisauripus (which likely came from a troodontid or a dromaeosaurid). According to researchers, the footprints represent the "highest resolution of detail yet recorded for any dinosaur skin impressions."

A new species of giant carnivore named Simbakubwa kutokaafrika ("Big lion from Africa"), possibly one of the largest land-dwelling carnivores ever and estimated to be perhaps larger than the modern day polar bear, has been described from the earliest Miocene of Kenya.
