Canids

I would like to see more dhole packs. I found this species incredibly interesting; also captive breeding seems to be improved.
It would be nice to see short-eared dog, Sechura fox and Ethiopian wolf.
(For Darwin's fox ex-situ programme could be too late now?)
And in general more species of foxes.

My species list includes:
1. Grey wolf (captive + wild)
+ Dingo
2. African wild dog
3. Dhole
4. Maned wolf
5. Golden jackal
6. Black-backed jackal
7. Bush dog
8. Red fox (captive + wild)
9. Fennec fox
10. Arctic fox
11. Bat-eared fox
12. Corsac fox
13. Raccon dog (captive + wild)

I really regret not seeing Cape fox in Plzen yet - the house was closed during my visit :(.

PS Tabernas (Oasys Mini Hollywood) in Spain looks like european power of rarely-keep foxes. Somebody was there and can say something more about?

If it's any consolation it was a no-show for me on both days of my visit despite several attempts :p
 
Can confirm a pale fox (Vulpes pallida) is currently held at Animal Adventures Family Zoo & Rescue Center in Massachusetts, USA

Ooo! I'm trying to do a new england trip this year, I don't think that was originally on my list but it'll be added now :)

According to the bronx thread, dholes will be going into the old polar bear habitat.

Sometime this summer, depending on my dog's health (it's been a rough week). My Dad wants to do it the week of July 4th, which I'm totally against for obvious reasons. I need to check in with him again on it.

Well... A little bit :P Sometimes I think it's hard to be passionate about small carnivores...
But maybe it will change soon for me, I won't give up only because a bad streak. Cape fox and palawan leopard cats are waiting...

Question: What subspecies of African painted dog are kept at American zoos (specifically Oregon and LA)?
 
I wouldn't be too upset with less grey foxes and coyotes in zoos. I'd love to see more bush dogs, tanuki, dingoes, African wild dogs, and dholes for sure. I wish Ethiopian wolves were in zoos (at least in the US, I don't know if there are captive populations elsewhere).

I would love to see MORE of both of those (along with those you mentioned).
 
I'm not realy a "dog-person" but evenso ( because everybody is making lists ) I also dived into my notes and made a list. To be honest it was much longer then I had expected ( 19 species ! ) :) :
- Wolf
- African wild dog

- Red fox ( only species seen both in captivity and the wild )
- Fennek
- Arctic fox
- Bat-eared fox
- Corsac fox
- Raccoon dog
- Swift fox

- Crab-eating fox
- Egyptian wolf
- Rüppell's fox
- Side-striped jackal
and Dingo and New Guinean singing dog but they don't count as far as I understood.

They're cool, it's just that for me, coyotes and grey foxes are the canids I've seen more in zoos than many others. I wish I could see wolves as often as I've seen coyotes.

Really? I've volunteered there for 3 years, and out of everything I found out, this is one thing that I never knew. I do know, however, they came from Italy. This was information from a carnivore keeper in a series they used to do on their YouTube channel called AskZooATL. She also went on to say they're the only zoo to house tanuki, although I think OKC Zoo had or still has raccoon dogs, which I guess aren't tanuki either.

I've only seen coyotes twice (one each time), grey foxes 2 or 3 times. The number of red foxes I've seen, though... and wolves...
