Ventura Wildlife Park Ventura Wildlife Park news 2019

Visited today for the first time since August last year and a few changes in that time.

First the bad news--the elderly female fossa has died and her enclosure is currently empty.
Other news :
5 male Squirrel monkey have arrived from South Lakes and are sharing the exhibit with the 4 Cuban Hutia and 3 Red rumped agouti.
The Parma Wallaby are now in the new Kookaburra aviary.

The cotton top tamarin have been mentioned earlier, but I counted at least 11, I don't think I've ever seen that many together.
Also saw the Corsac fox pair (asleep) and the zebra foal.

Visited Ventura this afternoon, and saw pretty much everything. Raccoon dogs were a highlight, with the male and his seven offspring getting on really well, and the pair of corsac foxes were also really nice. Saw the new baby Cuban hutia although it was impossible to get a photo with it being so sunny.

Spoke to the keeper during the raccoon dog talk who let me know of the following upcoming exhibits:
  • Tortoise house, holding the African spurred and leopard tortoises (currently living with the lemurs), is near completion.
  • Binturongs (generic subspecies) are to be temporarily held in the enclosure vacated by the fossa until a new enclosure is built near the raccoon dogs/corsac foxes in the Asian section.
  • African grey hornbills and dwarf mongooses are to be held in a mixed exhibit still being built.
  • The omnipresent meerkats are also coming.

All exciting, are the Binturongs on show now? and do you know where the tortoise house and mixed exhibit for the hornbills and the mongoose will be? I am thinking behind the zebra enclosure

Binturongs are offshow currently but almost ready to be moved.

Yes, behind the zebras :)

News on Facebook, a pair of female Javan Binturongs have arrived from Hamerton Zoo
