Zoo Duisburg Duisburg Zoo news

I have a clue, in fact the curator of the zoo, good friend of mune, showed me a video of it. And they're not jellies. But I don't know if the let me announce it here... since the zoo website didn't announced the species yet I suppose that is better to not announce it.

Yeah, they already have a tank with jellyfish (Stomolophus meleagris) at the end of the hallway. Or at least they did last summer. :)

Fair enough, I didn't expect anyone in the know to reveal the secret, my question was more directed against casual visitors.

But can I ask, do you think the species will delight Zoochatters? Or is that still too much of a spoiler to talk about?

I don't know. Zoochatters are a so varied group of people! Some only care about elephants and big cats, others only mind about exhibits and architecture. For sure, species-collectors like me would find it interesting. But I didn't ever knew it before... And no, it's not a different species of river dolphin :D

P. S. lucky you! During my visit the jellies of this tank was Cotylorhiza tuberculata. Nice for substitute my previous horrible photo of the species, but the Stomolophus would be new for me. Some day I will get at any aquarium, tough.

That was the thing I was trying to imply, so good to hear.

Aww, I had just gotten my hopes up for a huge pod of Yangtze River dolphins. :( Nah, the aquarium isn't exactly big, so I presume they can't hope to hold a much bigger species than the giant salamander or lungfish they already have.

As I learned today Arila the nearly 3 year old Amur Tigeress left Duisburg Zoo on 21. May 2019
Her new home will be the Prague Zoo, Czech Republic.
Arila is born in June 2016 with her Twin brother Makar to Mommy Dasha and Dad El Roi

Every time I see an alert for this thread it really scares me:confused:
Nice news though, maybe this could result in a breeding at Prague.

Dont worry, Folks-"Baby"is doing fine...

Two King Colobus were born recently, both raised by their mothers. The zoo has now 13 of this species in three groups.

Blue Duikers doing well ,too. They are mixed with the Bongos.

Unfortunately, the 19 years old female clouded leopard"Alte dame"(Old Lady", but I guees, this wasn't her name since her birth- had to be euthanized due to age.

hello, is this zoo the only one that has the Amazon pink dolphins? or are there others?

It's not the only place on Earth that keeps them, but it's the only one in Europe and probably the only outside of the species' native range. The others are at Acuario de Valencia, Venezuela and Zoologico de Guistochoca, Peru. The two threads below should give some more information about river dolphins in captivity.

No longer held according to an article in the Autumn 2018 edition of Zoo Grapevine & IZN, mentioned in the review of the International Zoo Yearbook.

Note! This is not about Baby! You can all calm down now.

12 year old female koala 'Goonderrah' has been put to sleep. It seems she was suffering from leukaemia. She was born at the zoo in 2007, and is survived by 5 offspring, including 0.1 'Goni' who is still at Duisburg

Visited Duisburg today (my first German zoo!) and was wondering if there was any information on some of the building work going on? In particular the enclosure next to the lions and the new aviary that seemed to be going up nearby?

The works next to the Lion enclosure will be an extension of the Lion enclosure. The aviary is for Australian birds, species yet unknown...
