Riverbanks Zoo and Garden Riverbanks Zoo News

It sounds as if Robin and Belle were about to be transferred out, but it seems no zoo has offered to take them in? This seems strange, especially as survivor Belle is only 36.

I have a feeling that Atlanta was going to receive new elephants for their expansion (so far having obtained Msholo from SDZSP), and Riverbanks' elephants seemed to be perfect candidates. (Coincidentally, Riverbanks AND Atlanta are looking to obtain southern white rhinos for their old elephant exhibits. White Oak might be the place where they obtain said rhinos.)

I recently found out on opening day Riverbanks zoo allowed the crowned cranes to roam the grounds freely, any other zoos.do this with this species?

I came across a news article about the death of one of the zoo's Koala, Lottie and was interested about her story. She arrived at the zoo in 2003 as a gift from here in Queensland, Australia along with another female as part of a sister-state agreement between South Carolina and Queensland. She went on to have 11 joeys at the zoo and they have since produced many generations of koalas across American facilities. She passed away at the age of 19 (which is a very good age for a koala): Beloved Riverbanks Zoo koala, Lottie, passes away at 19 - ABC Columbia
