Audubon Zoo Audubon Zoo News

I miss Barani. He was an exceptional orangutan. The only problem he had at Audubon Zoo was that after his first offspring(Menari) was born, he and the mother (Feliz) began to despise each other and had to be separated from then on. I hope he still gets along with his new mate in Denver.

I was in Denver and saw him on exhibit with his mate and offspring! Happy for him but I do miss him here!

A question to anyone who’s been to Audubon. I’ll be going to New Orleans for the AZA annual conference held there this year over the weekend, and I want to know what are some things that are “must sees” or what do you recommend seeing/doing at the zoo?

Also, what’s the zoo’s policy towards backpacks? And do they have lockers or a place to store them (I’m going straight from the airport to the zoo)?

Must sees in the zoo or in NOLA? My info is wildly out of date, but I would consider the new lion exhibit a "must see". Beyond that? No idea.

Backpacks are permitted so long as they're smaller than 28 quarts according to the zoo's website.

There used to be lockers just after the entrance (on the right), but I do not know if they're still in place or not.

If you are attending AZA I suggest stopping by Guest Services and asking them to hold your luggage. They will probably be quite accomodating

I’m 99% sure you can bring a backpack in. I’m not sure about lockers.

STAY HYDRATED. We’re going through a record breaking heat wave right now. It’s kind of miserable to be outside.
There is a new lion exhibit which is pretty nice. I believe they’re still doing intros right now so it’s a toss up as to who will be on exhibit. Maybe all four if they’re doing intros that day.
There’s a new baby orangutan which is out on exhibit as well.
There’s also a baby ocelot born recently but sadly I believe they are off exhibit at the moment.
I’m partial to the Louisiana Swamp exhibit! It has the best theming and cultural elements in addition to the animal collection. There’s two white alligators which is pretty cool, a nine foot one from the first ever clutch found and a brand new smaller one found more recently.
If there’s an alligator feed the day you’re going, you should go. It’s pretty cool to watch.

Have fun! It’s my home zoo and I love it.

Three lion cubs were born on January 11th to parents "Kali" and "Arnold". Unfortunately, one of the cubs did not survive. The two remaining cubs are active and healthy behind-the-scenes, where they will remain for at least 12 weeks:

Yes,sorry for the misunderstanding. Btw, do you know what are the names of the okapis at the Audubon Species Survival Center?
